That's right next to Kansas. Haven't you seen The Wizard of Oz? Tornados everywhere!!! You'll be blown away for sure.

According to google, Amtrak from LA to La Junta is about 23.5 hours. Hope you enjoy that hour you get to spend at home every weekend!

No. How about Brighton? See, La Junta is just like Lamar, without all the glitter.

I don't care if you're driving on the Autobahn. IMO you're nuts to put yourself and your car in a position to drive 350 miles a day (or how many days a week you are required to go to work). I don't have enough time in my day to spend a minimum of 5 hours commuting. I have better things to do with my life.

I had a neighbor awhile back that commuted from the springs every week - he had bought a small condo near his employer - his Family was happy in the springs, so he made the best of it...

I have the option to choose Deming, NM as well (aboard Amtrak's Sunset Limited or Texas Eagle), with nearly the same home prices as La Junta, and I can walk close to home. Deming, NM is just as safe as La Juna, CO in terms of natural disasters. It's the minimum requirement here and closest city from Los Angeles, CA with $25,000 houses, and of course, saves 1/3 of travel time from La Junta.

But of course, New Mexico is more boring than Colorado. I will have to aboard Amtrak's train and see which city (plus time ride and patience) is most convenient for me. No, my interest in Kansas City, MO isn't really that high due to far and long time distance like you all say.

The commute from La Junta to Pueblo is 50 mph or so. Then you have to navigate a few mile of stop and go traffic before you reach I25. You would be much better off buying in the eastern part of Pueblo West near I25.

I actually have a high opinion of La Junta. Just not many jobs there. The older houses, I think everything north of 6th St is in a flood plain. Some houses in La Junta are literally shacks with foundations that you could not finance conventionally.

I'm still having trouble understanding the whole point of the OP's post. As near as I can understand he/she wants to get on an Amtrak train out of LA and stop at a town/city that has houses for sale for around $25,000. And, since New Mexico is "boring", then he/she chose Colorado.

Then, the next point is that he/she needs a job, so apparently Denver is the place that he/she is looking. That's where this whole thing got crazy -- no, actually it was pretty crazy from the start. I just can't figure out the connection between getting on Amtrak from LA and finding a place to live somewhere in Colorado and working in Denver.

As we all pointed out, there are many small towns with cheaper housing much much closer to Denver, but then the OP said that it had to be on the Amtrak line. This part I just can't figure out. Does that mean that he/she plans to ride the Amtrak for 24 hours from LA to walk to his/her house to then drive to work????

OP, please explain!
