i was in a similar situation (see this post for more thoughts) and yeah, live downtown.

i used to work in an office in the streets of southglenn, and let's be honest - it's no south broadway, cap hill, ballpark, whatever. a fine place to grab a drink after work, but it's not where all the cool kids are flocking to on a weekend night.

get a cheap bike and your trip to the light rail will be super fast. i did the same for a couple years and i rode my bike to the stop 90% of the time. on days where it was pouring rain, dumping snow, or too icy/cold, i'd walk or take a bus to the stop.

does your employer offer a discount on rtd passes?

Does your employer offer a subsidized transit pass? I pay about $30/month for my EcoPass which basically works across the entire RTD system, with a few exceptions (I think I have to pay something like $5 to take the bus to the airport, or instance). Also I second the suggestion of looking at the new apartments by Alameda Station as well. Easy walking distance to bars and restaurants along Broadway.

Can't tell you guys how much I appreciate the suggestions and the advice. I liked IMT Alameda station a lot when I toured it yesterday. I submitted an application today, and I'm excited about it. I have to ask my employer if they have an EcoPass program, because they are a decent size company and I know that there are many other employees who take the light rail in, but for now I'm just going to assume I'll have to pay the $140/mo, and if I end up being able to get a discount I'll just consider that a bonus.

Also -- there's a really cool apartment complex opening up right next to IMT Alameda called "The Denizen". It's the first ever apartment complex that was designed and built in partnership with the RTD, so it is right on the light rail, and the land is partially owned by RTD (which interestingly means they were not allowed to build a pool for the complex because RTD was worried about liabilities, but all the other amenities are incredible). The buildings are also the first to be designed specifically to achieve LEED Platinum status, which is pending but they say it's almost guaranteed, and they would be the first apartment complex ever to get Platinum status. For the tenant, that basically just means you pay less utilities, and theoretically the extra insulation will cut back on outside noise between walls. They just opened their first building a month ago and its already filled up, otherwise I think I would have lived there, because it really looks amazing, and since it just opened, the prices are cheapest right now. The second building is right next door and under construction, but sadly will not be ready until early November, and I don't know what I would do in the meantime, so I think I have no choice but to rule it out.

If anyone is reading this a month or two from now, I would suggest taking a look at the Denizen. Denizen | Apartments in Denver, CO | 303-847-4553 | Home
