I will be traveling to Denver from September 23-27. I'm looking for some great food suggestions that may be a little strange and not your typical "I'm a tourist" food. We're planning on hitting up the food trucks in Civic Park on the first day, and Jim's hotdogs at some point. 5280 burger bar is also on the list, as well as 100% de Agave. Suggestions for amazing breakfast/brunch locations would also be appreciated.

Sassafras on Colfax

Many Ethiopian food places on Colfax

Olive & Finch on 17th and Downing (I think)

"I'm a tourist" food they are not, but they definitely fall into "I'm a hipster" territory.

Thank you. I'm definitely trying to stay away from the hard rock cafe's and similar places. We're traveling with a major foodie, so he's always looking for the strange places.

Linger in the Highlands. Walk next door for ice cream at Little Man.

Bistro Barbes in Park Hill is one of my favorites. Small, quaint, quite good.

Ophelia's in Downtown....specially on a Thurs through Sat for the live music - make a rezzie.

Breakfast/brunch - Duo in the Highlands. Dazzle off s. Broadway for Sunday jazz brunch.

If there were an iconic food item for Denver/Colorado, it would be the breakfast burrito.

Make sure you get one of these and smother it in green chile.

Try El Taco de Mexico, Santiagos, Tamale Kitchen, or one of dozens of places that serve them. Everyone has their own favorite place, so others can chime in with their suggestions

Iconic Colorado is the Buckhorn Exchange. You can get there on the light rail

A little bit of a drive, but also fun is The Fort in Morrison.

I second Ophelia's and Linger - or Root Down. I would also recommend

Nocturne
Dunbar Kitchen and Tap House
Denver Biscuit Co.
Williams & Graham for a cocktail - only takes reservations on weekdays
Pinche
Mercantile Dining & Provisions - Might be a little more touristy because of location at Union Station...

Yep - Linger or Root Down (same owners I believe).

And if you do Linger, then DEFINITELY Little Man ice cream next door.
