We have been gas range type of people for some time. I mean the benefits are really there. . .instant on and off, heats up quickly, easily tell its on. . .you can flambe with a tilt of the pan.

Yet it seems 95% of the homes have electric. I mean its a epidemic, and almost the opposite of the east coast. The funny thing - gas runs to every home. Everyone has gas furnaces, and gas water heaters. . .

I'm going to rip that SOB electric out, one of the first projects, and replace with gas. Is there any reason why colorodians stick with electric?

I lived in the Denver area for twenty years before moving back to eastern PA for work.

In Denver I had a gas range and here on the east coast I have a gas range as well.

Your right however in your assessment concerning people using electric ranges much more than natural gas on the front range.

Why? I really don't know.

Default Almost no one has a gas range

Most "gas ranges" in Colorado are dual fuel ranges.
Gas cooktop and electric oven.

I suspect you are seeing electric ranges because (I think) they are cheaper to install.

On the other hand, I don't know anyone with an electric cooktop.

Really? I've never seen such an animal, and I've lived here 32 years, in several different homes. Nor have I ever seen anything like that in the stores.

Virtually everyone I know has an electric cooktop, including me.

I'm guessing it's a cost issue. My house has an electric range even though it also has a gas fireplace and gas heating. I've been meaning to get a quote to see how much it would cost to run a gas line to the kitchen, but haven't done it yet.

Every apt I've been to here and the new condo I'm buying have all had electric stoves

Not sure why, gas heat is like 10000 times better than electric heat, I know gas stoves would be better also

These are all speed issues. The West is relaxed.

^^These are all fairlypricy high-end products. The "cheapest" seems to be about $2400, some are much more. This isn't what you find in your average apt. for sure, or even in your average home, even a "move-up" home. If you don't know anyone with an electric cooktop, you're running with a well-heeled crowd.
