Emm, during the winter months, about once per month, I'll put the hose and sprinkler out for a few hours on a mild day with calm winds; that's all it needs. If we get any decent snows that melt then I might skip a month.

Do you continue to do any hand watering at this point, or call it good until next spring?
I'll blow mine out this week. And then I hand water the lawn for a while since I just fertilized a couple weeks ago, and it's extremely green, and growing. Growth will slow down very soon, but with a little hand watering, mine stays green into December.

I don't actually have to blow ours out. I just run a dry cycle, which I can do on the fly in an hour or so. I routinely run the sprinkler system in the winter during warm spells to keep the trees healthy and just dry cycle the system again when I'm done.

Is that because you live on a hill or something? I was told the same about my yard, because i live on a hill i was told i can just run them dry and everything will drain to the bottom sprinklers and out into the street. I am just cautious so I'm blowing them out but I am curious

Our yard is just slightly sloped toward the street in the front, flat in the back. We've done this for eight years with nary a problem.

I've only seen 1℃ forecasted. But I guess that's close enough to not want to take a chance!

Thanks again everyone- since I'm in new construction, I will make sure to do some hand watering for the new trees.

Is this some trick the landscape people don't want us to know about? Or a special function on your system? Really... there should be an automatic blow-out built into these things!
