Default basement finishing question....

we're not diy types, lol. we need to hire someone to make a really nice basement area (media center, playroom, bathroom and maybe bedroom). anyhoo, should we use a general contractor, or use one of these specialty basement finishers? any ideas? the basement is 1350 sq, and assuming the house passes inspections and stuff, and we close escrow, we'd like to have it finished promptly (pause for laughter here).

we have someone coming by tomorrow ( a general contractor) to look the place over (in between inspectors, etc) and give us some info, but I thought I'd solicit info from folks who may have been there.

also, if you have any recommendations on folks who might do the job (it's in aurora/unincorporated arapahoe county) I'd appreciate a pm. thanks.

We used a basement finisher. He was a one stop shop. We interviewed about five outfits too. They also did a lot of little things for us since they were around (installed a trash compactor in the main kitchen, recaulked the master shower). I'd recommend them.

I'll be buying a house with an unfinished (but plumbed) basement in Castle Rock soon and its about 1,200 square feet- what is a ballpark figure for a basic refinishing with 1 bathroom (no perks just basics)

There are several different shops in town. I would go the route probably 3 different ways and make your own judgement. Ask a friend(s), look in the yellow pages and then do city search or craigslist for those specialty companies? Get quotes/estimates from each. The bottom line and from past experience, ask for a list of names/numbers to call for a testimonial and also ask to see their work. Photo album or go over first hand and see it.

Hope this helps!

I know a company that specializes in basement remodels, does quality work, has won awards etc. If you want info - DM me. I'm not sure that we're supposed to post names on here? But I would also recommend like previous poster to get quotes from 3, see current clients, etc. Many of them are scheduling pretty far out right now too, so you may want to keep that in mind too.

[ Mod Note: Yep, DM's are the way to trade contact info / names of firms or people, etc. ]
