Bradburn looks like would be a good fit for you. I can vouch for the excellence of the home public schools, and there are in addition excellent charter options available. As to the urban aspect: from my home I can walk in 5-10 minutes to many restaurants, shops, and services including but not limited to:

Whole Foods (AWESOME-5 minute walk)
Sprouts (another organic grocer)
These restaurants 5-10 minutes from any Bradburn home:

Ted's Montana Grill
Early Bird
The Exchange Tavern
Zen Asian Bistro
Zoe's kitchen (under construction in new retail building)
Whole Foods pizza/sandwich/taco/salad/sushi bars

8-15 minutes walk depending on location in the neighborhood:

Japon sushi
Fox & Hound Tavern
IHOP
Wendy's
Einstein's bagels
Chipolte
Yogurt Brothers
Starbucks
Jamba Juice
GQue (BBQ)

Services in 5-15 minute walk

24 hour fitness
2 dentists
3 hair cut places (soon to be 4!)
Dry cleaner
Walgreen's
Yoga studio
Pure Barre (another type of exercise studio)
Tires Plus (very useful)
Big Lots
Liquor store
2 pet stores (supplies, no pets)
Staples
2 banks and 1 credit union
Tutoring place (a great one if needed)
Bath & Body Works
Spa
A vet clinic

Everything else is a very close drive (5-10 minutes) as there's lots more retail, I just don't generally walk to them if I have to cross 120th or it takes more than 15 minutes one way.

Please note the new homes you see listed for sale by Century Communities on Bradburn's east side by the charter school are not part of Bradburn. This means those homes have no access to Bradburn's parks or pool, and have a separate, unrelated HOA. I can't speak to how their community feel will shape up, but there's loads of it (and kids) in Bradburn. Those houses are however, close enough to walk to stores in Bradburn with an extra 5-10 minutes. Single family new home construction is finished in Bradburn so you will only see resales.

There are several nice Catholic churches nearby, but none in walking distance. I know of three neighbors that attend two different churches and they say good things about both.

Do you know what else is going in that new strip mall?

I have not been to this place, but have heard conflicting opinions. Have you eaten there?

Don't forget Wonderland Brewery! (although you have to stumble across Sheridan)

Yes in the new building there will be Zoe's kitchen, a natural food pet store, a spa, a super cuts (hairdresser), a veterinarian, and not sure who will take the last open spot.

In addition to that building, another new 11,000 sq foot retail building was just submitted to the city in Bradburn. That building will go between the Montessori next to Whole Foods and what we call the purple building on Main Street. No word on what's going in that building yet, but it looks like from the plans it has 4 units and the end units both have outdoor patios so I'm thinking 2 more restaurants or bars.

I haven't eaten at Fox and Hound, just been there for private parties, but I hear it's pretty good.
