Default Park Hill - Coors Field - City Park neighborhoods

My husband and I are moving to Denver from DC in March for a new job so we're frantically searching for apartments. We only want to rent for a year max so we can find a house to buy. We've found some nice looking places near the Park Hill golf course as well as a few near Coors Field and City Park. What are these neighborhoods like? Our rent max is about $1200/mo. so we can save money. We're 30, no kids, just need a nice and relatively safe place to live while we get our bearings.

I love all the advice in this forum so I'm hoping it will rub off on us too!

I have owned a home and lived in Park Hill for almost 6 years and love it. Very diverse, tolerant, central and has a great neighborhood feel. I know every single neighbor on my block, and that is fairly uncommon these days. I don't know about the apartments north of Park Hill near the golf course, but the location might not be your thing. Very close to I-70s and a Safeway distribution center. Not much to look at if you're into views.

If you're looking for apartments, closer to downtown and Coors Field may be your thing. There's also a neighborhood called Uptown that you should consider (between Park Hill and downtown). There are a good mix of old and new apartments/lofts/condos along 17th street, which has tons of restaurants and shops. You won't get tons of space for your target rent, but you may end up loving the location. It's in-town living, but Denver has a very livable downtown area.

Best of luck with your search. Keep researching and asking questions. The good thing is you're renting, so have time to check out all parts of Denver before you buy.

When looking in uptown also call it City Park West. Uptown is a recent invention by realtors that not all listings will reflect.

I'm new to Denver and recently moved into a mid-rise apartment on 17th ave, Uptown. I am loving the area. At first I thought Lodo was where I wanted to be but now I'm not so sure...we'll see.

But here in Uptown, particularly where I am at, everything is very convenient. Literally, I can walk a couple blocks one way and be at the end of 16th St Mall (the free bus takes me all the way to the end of Lodo easily), walk a few blocks down 17th Ave and there are a few really cool neighborhood bars, a handful of tasty restaurants (cheap to $$$), a gourmet local grocery w/ old fashion butcher shop, and finally if I walk 2 blocks another direction I am on Colfax and have multiple ethnic restaurants, bars, shops, etc....

Very convenient spot, and nice views of downtown as well

Oh here, check out:

Denver Colorado Neighborhoods

Oh and your $1200/mo should be fine as long as you dont need a huge and/or super fancy place.

yep I think you'd love City Park/Uptown area as well as Park Hill. Park Hill is more residential while City Park/Uptown have walkable restaurants (several great new ones), as well as great running path in City Park.

I love that uptown area. I was walking around there the other night and was amazed at how safe it felt there. Even at night, there were women walking by themselves! I live in Orlando where there are very few places that are safe to walk (outside the tourist areas).

But oh no! It is near Colfax!!

Your post confirms my long standing opinion that those who feel Colfax is unsafe are better off living in Highlands Ranch and never visiting the city.
