Hello,
My husband and I have been in love with Denver for a long time. By the time we were ready to move, Denver had become the new hot spot due to recreational marijuana. We decided to wait a while before moving to hopefully give it some time to die down. We are now planning on relocating to Denver at the end of February. Our biggest concern is the job market. With all the new people flocking to Denver what is it like searching for a job there? My husband is an electrician and I work as an administrator in healthcare. Any advice about the jobs, rental market, and any thing else would really be appreciated.

FYI: We are moving from Chicago

Marijuana is only one very small factor as to the reasons why Denver is hot at the moment. And if you think Denver has cooled down, you'd be wrong.

Neither of you should have any problem getting a job here. The area has not cooled down, and is not expected to in 2016. Best wishes on your move.

Thank you LaurieKerman, we do not think it has cooled down but we are sick of waiting to move there so we are ready to take the risk but it seems like overall most people say there is work. We are excited to explore Denver and meet get to know the people there!

Jobs wise you will both be fine if you don't use pot. If you do, be aware that companies drug test so you will be scraping the bottom of the barrel for positions or have to look at self employment opportunities. Ex. freelance electrician for him, independent home health aid/care for you.

The rental market is tight. You need good credit, money for the deposit and jobs.

The market was hot before recreational pot. It just made us slightly more visible to the rest of the country. We were already on the hottest places to move list, largely because of employment opportunities. If we didn't have jobs we would go back to being a backwater cow town.

As for jobs, I can tell you this. My department is trying to fill 3 positions (manager and director level) and so far, ALL the qualified candidates are from out of state. Apparently everyone in Denver has a job
