Not everyone wants to deal with unreliable, shifty drug dealers or breathe unknown, underground product into their lungs. Teens might not care, but adults think twice about such things. I'm looking forward to legal weed, but I don't smoke weed currently exactly for the reasons above...

Some people are really into nightlife -- so they might relocate to cities known for that... Some are really into fine dining & restaurants & such... Some are really into the music scene... Some are really into motorcycles... Some are really into nature... Some are really into culture...

Some people can relate to all those pursuits, but not weed.

...And some people like weed. Serious answer!

I don't live in CO so no first hand knowledge (but thinking of moving there). But the media sure tells me that people are moving in droves to CO because of legal weed and mostly young, homeless street kid types.

I live in CA where there is medical marijuana but nobody is fooling anyone here because anyone can get a "prescription" and it's own industry with "doctors" who only do that. But from my experience with people I know, there are a lot of professionals with careers and families etc who don't want to get arrested dealing with a shady criminal activity but if they feel like they can legally do it they do

Metro Denver unemployment rate down even more in December

"Metro Denver appears to be insulated from the loss of oil and gas jobs in recent months and posted a December unemployment rate of 3.1 percent, down from 4 percent one year ago"

I have my eye on Denver. Why? Because where I live, here in NYC, my rent is $2,600 a month. For a one bedroom apartment. I kill myself working 80 hours a week to maintain a middle class lifestyle. 34.5% of my income goes to taxes, which mostly is funding the vast numbers of welfare deadbeats that populate the environment around me. Some of them even have "affordable housing" in my building... which means they barely work in reality and got lucky in a lottery (we literally have lotteries for housing).

Colorado has nature. NYC doesn't. I could actually survive there comfortably on 20-30 hours less per week. That's absolutely key. I can smoke pot in my home. Here I can't. The people seem more down-to-earth. Denver still has culture and a respectable culinary scene. It seems obvious to me. Why Denver didn't get crowded sooner is more of the question I have. It shouldn't be cheap to live there, given everything it has going for it. People get pushed out of desirable areas when those with means move in. If that bothers you then you don't believe in the free market. And should vote extreme left-wing.

Well, it bothers about 75% of the City Council [Denver] members. They are all in for "affordable" housing.

Especially for folks who drive out to GVR in their shiny new cars to wait in line to apply for Section 8 apartments.

So, appears, from posts here, that there are a lot of the young generation moving to Denver area for jobs, outside activities and, what most posting include......smoking pot.

So, like the smell of cigarette smoke, that some folks don't like, living in an apartment complex could produce the smell of pot in the air as well.

Just wonder how families (wife/husband/kids) would feel if the odor of smoking pot drifted outside from an apartment? I mean, not all families can afford to buy a house when they first move to a new area, so they have to rent an apartment.

Wonder how many folks "pack up and leave", not because of the winters, but because of the smell of pot?

We loved living south of Denver and all the activities that we did, but this "pot" thing could make us think differently about moving back there.
