Default From "Seattle" to Denver Questions

To anyone who feels chatty, I've got questions. I've read the "what areas of downtown to avoid" and would like to know, what areas should I gravitate toward? First of all, I'd like to pat myself on the back for making it in the Seattle area on only about $2500/mo. between my husband and I for about 8 years without credit cards and without selling any illegal substances off the books. After reading the post about the Tibetan husband/Unidentified wife combo from Seattle and their housing payments/multiple car insurance/HOA headaches, I feel somehow honored to be chosen by God to be poor and scrappy for what is rapidly becoming the entirety of my natural life. That being said, I think Denver will be awesome, just because I make it so! So, back to the point, what neighborhoods would a local recommend that are close to the transpo and possibly a really good YMCA? I don't ask for much. I will be going to Metro State and wonder where the students live... Thanks for anything!

Default Couldn't find it...

...but found lots of other threads... The best, tried and true way to find out about a new place is just to go there and ask the dishwasher smoking (15' from the entrance) in the alley. Never fails! (Most of the time, you do the OPPOSITE of what he says.) Thanks for the advice, Mike!

P.S. By the way, people always mistake my husband for being from the east coast (he's from San Diego). Do you have an east coast aura and if so, how do people react to it in Denver? Thanks...

It is under Cars/Driving:

There is a wealth of information in this thread. livecontent uses public transit a lot, is retired and has lots of time to go to public meetings about transit. He is a great resource on this board.

Easterners have varying feelings on the vibe towards them here in Denver. I don't even notice the anti-easterner/Californian/Texan stuff much any more, but some say it still exists. Try looking that up in the index, too. There is an index for Denver and one for Colorado.

Metro is very much a commuter school. I'd say most of the students that go there live nowhere near campus. They've been trying to offer more on-campus housing in the last few years, but given the number of students there, it's a drop in the bucket.

Most of the students who do live near their campus live in the same popular neighborhoods that non-students do: Capitol Hill, Uptown, Cheesman Park, Highland, etc. That said, there does seem to be a concentration of students in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, south of the campus. Many of the large apartment buildings fronting Speer (i.e,. the Parkway Apartments, etc), are full of students.
