Default Does the Denver area have much of a hockey scene?

Hockey is big where I live and is one of my favorite hobbies. I play outdoor pick-up games and on organized adult leagues. The wife and I are discussing relocating to CO and I am interested in what is available in the Denver area for youth and adult hockey. I've got to think there is a lot of interest given the population and the pro/college hockey out there. We have two young kids (under 5) and would love to see them take an interest in the sport eventually. Anybody have any knowldege in this area? Thanks.

It seems interest in hockey has grown since the Avs came to town. Before that, there were very few ice rinks around, even for recreational ice skating.

There is an indoor hockey/ice rink in Westminster. We went for an open skate while on vacation and on the other rink they were having hockey practice. Westminster Ice 714-899-7900

There are tons of rinks around. You shouldn't have any problem finding a place to skate that isn't too far away. I play at the Promenade in Westminster. There are 3 sheets of ice, but it's kinda pricey. It averages out to about $25 a game during the season. You can play drop in for around $15.

Hockey has *always* been around, my brother grew up playing it and continued in adult leagues before the Avalanche existed, but there are definitely more rinks now. It still seems like ice time for his games ends up being quite late at night, though.
As a kid, my brother played in the University of Denver's junior league; Keith Magnuson was one of his refs. DU has always been a great place to go see an exciting hockey game.

Those little Mites are so cute on the ice.

Welcome to the website of one of the most progressive ice rinks in the nation. The Ice Centre at the Promenade is located in Westminster, Colorado and is a joint project between the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District and the City of Westminster.

The Ice Centre is one of only a few triple ice sheet facilities in North America and is positioned on the Westminster Promenade, a world-class entertainment, hospitality and dining venue located at Hwy 36 and Church Ranch Boulevard.

LOL! The YMCA of Boulder Valley (not quite sure of official name) has a hockey rink and program in Lafayette, also Superior Ice in Superior has hockey. You will have to google the links. There is something in Boulder as well, but I can't remember the name. Also the APEX center in Jefferson County.

Last edited by Katiana; 02-11-2008 at 11:12 AM.. Reason: add information about APEX
