I visited Denver on a beautiful day recently. I had read that the were beautiful fountains/waterfalls in Skyline Park near the 16th Street mall. However, the water was turned off, and homeless people were encamped in them.

Does the city turn them on in the summer or has the city shut them permanently?

Other than the water feature by Union Station, are there any other fountains downtown?

Default No water for you

Most fountains are shut off.
The Winter destroys their innards and they never get repaired.
Sad.

Thanks. Are they shut off permanently?

Oddly, NYC has scores of fountains, and they're always turned back on in the spring.

People are freaky about water in Denver. A lot of people rant about how the region is running out of water, yet new homes are going up everywhere. Don't ever ask about swimming pools or you'll be ostracised!

There is a fountain in front of Union Station https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...5vyuuOBI6mqIgH

Who needs a water feature when you can have this https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...MMOujgSQuJLoDg

We don't have a ton of water features due to our dry climate. Those we do have are not turned on until much later since spring snowstorms are very common (we just had one), temperatures can vary wildly between night and day, and cold fronts can sometimes come with little to no warning. Obviously having wet pipes with freezing temps causes havoc on the water features, so the city is conservative about turning them back on.

As to the ones on 16th all of the ones I am aware of were in working order as of last summer. There's a few water features in other parts of downtown that they were doing rehab work on and all but one should be done with that.

Thanks for the info. Were the ones in Skyline Park working last summer? They look beautiful in photos.
