Planning on a quick weekend vacation in Denver at the beginning of May. As I am trying to "push my boundaries" a little I plan on staying three nights in a Hostel. So a few quick questions if I may.

First, any experiences with Hostels in the area? Good/bad I would like to hear it all. Also what areas to stay out of would be good to know.

Second I will only have about two days total in town (schedule precludes a long vacation). So what is everyone's favorite spots? I am considering the Denver Museum of Natural & Science of course, as well as the Denver Zoo. Is the Art Museum worth the look-see? I'm not really a huge art lover but I do enjoy some types (not modern, sorry Warhol fans). Maybe the Botanic Gardens?

Thanks for any/all advice!

The Denver Art Museum has a temporary Samurai exhibit through June 5. It also has one of the finest pre-Columbian art exhibits in the world. It's native American art collection is also top notch.

Check out the Capitol and climb to the observation deck under the gold dome. You need to reserve a spot in tour to go to the dome (free).

I like the History Colorado museum as well.

Hit up the lunch buffet at Los Cabos (Peruvian food) at 15th st and Champa by the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

Hostel Fish on 20th in Denver is a boutique, very clean hostel. Location is good for getting around.

Thank you both. I will add the Art Museum to my "must do" list. I was quite unhappy when I realized I missed the Terra Cotta warriors when they were local to me, so I will not pass up the chance to see something so similar yet so different! I had considered Hostel Fish before but the reviews indicate it could get a little noisy at night. Still it is definitely worth a second look.

I visit Denver for leisure often and I've had several pleasant experiences at 11th Ave Hostel. Clean and quiet. Right next to the museums/ capitol hill/ 16th st, and also a lovely spot for a bite/ beer walking distance called "Rooster and Moon" I believe. Enjoy your stay!

I second that. It's a beautiful restored Victorian building in a great location. The ground floor has a very hip new restaurant too.
