I do like industrialness. But I don't like Denver's. Equally unappealing to me is the lack of woods. Not far East into Kansas, you will find stands of trees on the high plains, grouped together to form a tiny forest. You will never find such a thing in Denver. Lastly, it is rivers that I miss the most. I wonder how Katriana (sp?) can get rivers out of her heart if she grew upin Pittsburgh. I grew up in Illinois, and my town was at the confluence of the Illinois and the Kankakee rivers. Like Norman Mclean said, "I am haunted by rivers". It is the bike trails, in my opinion, that make Denver such a special city. (I don't ski, and abhor going into the mountains)Many new and vibrant communities also make it a a great place to live.So much wealth and charm in some areas. I don't think STL, for example could hold a candle to Denver in regards to its newness, and vibrancy. Although, I'd imagine parts of STL are strong with wealth, charm and character. I think I would rather be in a place like STL. A place where you can drive into the countryside, and actually see countryside. If you drive east outside of Denver, you will run into a whole lot of brown nothingness.
I live in St. Louis. Kansas City and St. Louis are both great American cities. It all depends on what you're looking for. KC and STL both have a real classic American charm to them that you will not find in Denver. But those two cities don't have the energy of Denver, either.

I think that's what the poster meant. That's how I took it, anyway.

After reading all of these posts I am more encouraged then ever about moving there !! Most complaints are about the weather and climate which is give and take no matter where you live. Nothing can be done about the "brown nothingness." Even after all these hits there are still very few complaints about my magor issues; crime, housing, cost of living, activities, friendliness, and jobs. No place is perfect and I feel it is good to hear the downside from people who live there. Even with pages of complaints Denver feels nearly perfect to me!! BTW...I am on my way there in a week to land me a job. Like most people I am not having any luck getting one without being there. Putting my little feelers out there for any retail sales jobs. Anyone hear of any openings downtown please let me know!! A BIG thank you!!!

American Furniture Warehouse is usually hiring. Mattress King, most of the cell phone companies are always hiring. Nothing that pays usually more than 40K for top sales though. Denver is not a great place for retail sales commission.

Its how i feel too, not sure about retail downtown but wal-mart is always after people.
where ar eyou moving from ? im guessing you dont have to worry about visa issues, like i would.
i think me going over and getting a job is far off, cuz i havent started the process of 'emigrating' but id fear about going over there even for the full 90 days getting a job then saying 'right i cant be back out here til.....'
i wouldnt employ me at that rate .
the person i love is in Denver but i have to say..im in love with Denver too.

I am moving from Wyoming. Even though it feels like Wyoming is a whole other planet there is no visa needed!! Good luck with your move. I feel for you. Moving can be complicated enough. Do it by the numbers and never give up!!
