These are the areas my family is interested in. I know that they are two different areas, with Castle Rock being further out and bigger lots. Anyone live here or know anything about these areas? Hubby would be working in Englewood.

Look up the sticky at the top of the page and do a search. There is tons of information about those two places on this forum. The folks down that way will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Living in Castle Rock allows someone to work in either the Denver area or Colorado Springs.

There are plenty of very large lots in CHV.

My wife and I moved to Castle Rock in September. I work in the N. CO Springs area. She commutes to our home office - yes, I'm jealous! I have a friend that lives in Founders Village in CR and commutes to Englewood. He has no problems with the commute - although we both lived in the metro-Baltimore, MD area where traffic can be a nightmare at times.
What type of information on Castle Rock are you looking for? I'd be happy to provide what I can. |

Well, you do know that CHV is one of the wealthiest places in the country, right? Not going to be much there for under $1M. Castle Rock, on the other hand, has the full range.

Yes, I do know CHV is very expensive. From what I can tell on the limited pictures I see on real estate websites, there looks to be some trees in CHV (which is really appealing) and we do like older, charming homes on big lots (1-2ac). Does CR have any treed areas? How far is CR from Englewood? There are several homes in CR that we like, too. Does CR have a downtown? I would ideally like a nice little shopping area with boutiques, restaurants, some things to do. Is CR just a bunch of homes on big lots with no real downtown or hub? Like I said, I know these might be quite different areas, but these are where the homes are the most appealing to us. Of course, for the same price, the homes you can get in CR as compared to CHV are new and no updating needed!! I guess I am curious as to the "feel" of each, the community sociabilty, if moms get together a bit. Where we live now, the first neighbour we met told us that the reason people live on acreages (we are on 2 acres on the edge of the city) is so they don't have to talk to their neighbors!! Nice welcome
Anyway, we do want an area where our kids can meet other kids quite easily (they are 11 and 12) and charm and trees and big lots. |

CHV and neighboring Greenwood Village have "country estates" some have great views, some of the newer houses have small lots.
Then there are home in Castle Rock that have a more rural feeling, more natural landscaping. You might also like Foxfield, Chenango and Roxborough. |

Castle Rock has a downtown area. There are a lot of nice restaurants and some shopping. They also have a good amount of seasonal activities - art festival, wine festival, star lighting, etc. We have been very happy in our short 6 months here.
My wife and I live in Sapphire Pointe. Our neighbors have been very nice. I stop and chat with them often while walking our dogs. We do not have children but our neighbors do and they are outside playing together quite often. My wife is going to some type of "bubble bath" party this weekend with friends and neighbors; I guess that's a good sign! My friend lives in Founders Village in CR and he and his neighbors get together quite often - I've been over for BBQs involving his entire street! Everyone is very laid back and very inviting. Not a lot of trees in our neighborhood and I don't recall a lot in any other areas in CR -this is from our house hunting trips so I could have missed them! There are not a lot of acreage lots in CR in my opinion. I could be wrong as again I'm going off of our personal house hunting trips. We decided on a smaller lot (under 1/3 acre) as we knew we'd be in the mountains on most weekends and out taking advantage of all that CO has to offer. Not sure on the commute time to Englewood but I do recall my friend telling me to transfer to his office in Englewood as its shorter than my commute and I only have about 30 minutes to N. CO Springs. Hope this helps and best of luck in your search! |

Having owned and lived in Greenwood Village and Castle Rock and being a rare Colorado Native I will try and give my best expert advise. Cherry Hills/Greenwood Village is very expensive but seems to hold its value because it provides a secure open feel in the metro area with award winning schools and a wonderful family environment. You will find more affordable single family homes (400 to 500K) with small lot nieghborhoods in Greenwood Village which also allows highly desirable revenue generating commercial and business zoning in the town, as a result it has lower taxes and incredible city-government advantages. Cherry Hills does not have any commercial zoning in the village (not even a gas station) so the taxes are high and depending on location amenities are not as convienent. I also found the community to be less open minded and snobbier so I chose Greenwood Village which also shares the same school system as CHV.
I moved from GV five years ago to a 5 acre property in Castle Rock and enjoy it very much. We miss the convienence of the metro area sometimes (20 minutes away) but enjoy the open space for our dogs and our 2 boys can ride their ATV's, ride horses, hike, etc. We lived on a smaller lot in GV and enjoyed the "nieghborhood" feel but moved because we wanted a little more elbow room. We did want what we have in Castle Rock in GV/CHV but the difference was 800K in CR to over 2 million in GV/CHV, so price was definentaly a desision. The difference is more a Midwestern Decidious Tree feel in GV/CHV and a mountain Pine or rugged feel in CR. Both have excellent schools and community so if price is not and option you will be happy in both areas. By the way please excuse any spelling/grammer errors, my 4 year-old calls. |
