Hi all, hoping you might be able to help! This is a rather sudden relocation, but we are moving to Denver by Labor Day for my husband's new job (located downtown) and are currently looking for a house or townhome to rent. We have a 4 year old who is in PreK and a 2.5 year old. We'd like to keep the girls in the same school as long as possible to avoid having two pick ups/drop offs so we will likely put them in a private daycare that goes through K. Then, once the oldest starts first grade, the youngest will be ready for prek. Our hope is that we can place them in the same elementary school (so we'd need one that has a prek program). Do the schools that offer preK change? We found a few places we live in the Cottonwood Creek elementary area, but Cottonwood creek doesn't appear to have a prek program this year according to the CCSD site. That's fine, but in two years, we will want one...we can always move again, of course, but my hope is to rent in the same area that we would like to buy in a couple of years so that our daughters will already have friends in the neighborhood who will also be in the school.

Any idea on the PreK programs at school and if they change? (Google and Great Schools have certain elementary schools listed as having PreK programs, but those schools don't seem to appear on the list on the CCSD site as having a PreK program, so I'm wondering if some years they do, and some years they don't...)

Any other thoughts on neighborhoods? We were looking at Englewood, Greenwood Village and Centennial areas - mostly because of the great schools.

Our budget is up to $2800/$3000 max, but we'd rather not be that high if we can avoid it. We really need a basement (even if unfinished) because we're coming from a 2900 sq ft home outside of Atlanta, and would rather not have to find storage. We can comfortably do 1900 sq ft+ a basement.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Padmapper.com for rentals. Good luck on finding on something. You may need to look into temp housing. Here we have light rail coming from the southeast, southwest, north, and west. That could open your search perimeter up quite a bit.

Schools are already underway so getting into a pre-k will not be easy.

What 2beindenver said, plus, it's expecting a lot to be able to finesse all of this in a couple weeks. You may find yourselves having to move a second time. You will get much more of a "lay of the land" once you've lived here a while.

If hubby is working downtown, you can live almost anywhere. Many of the Boulder Valley School District elementary schools have pre-schools. Boulder may sound far, but BVSD covers the southern portion of eastern Boulder County as well, e.g. Louisville, Lafayette, Superior and western Broomfield.

I would also recommend Stapleton.
