You might want to look into the Boulder Valley School District. I don't know what their hiring needs are but we live in Louisville near Boulder and we love the district. We have a daughter in 5th grade special ed and a son in a typical 7th grade class. Boulder is a wonderful area I think you would love it here. Sorry I don't know too much about the specifics, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Boulder Valley School District has many more applicants than jobs. You might get lucky, though.

First of all, you need to apply through th Colorado State Department of Education, which you can find online. You can either download it yourself and print, or request that it be sent to you. You will also need fingerprinting and a test called PLACE, to be administered in Colorado. I am going through this entire process myself, having taught in California for over 15 years. One thing that stinks for me is that I'll be taking about a $25,000 a year pay cut, due to only 5-7 years of experience being transferred over. Hopefully the lower cost of living will make this somewhat manageable.
Districts that I've heard are good are: Cherry Creek, Boulder Valley, Douglas County, JeffCo, and Littleton Public Schools. I hope this helps, but it would be great to hear from some local teachers. Anyone? |

Thanks for the info. What, you need to apply through the state dept. regardless of where you teach?? That's different. I was just thinking of contacting districts directly. Yes, the pay cut is drastic
Rebagirl, I assume you're applying for this fall? I'm worried I'm cutting it too close, but am scared to move without a job. Yikes. |

My husband is a teacher in the Cherry Creek School District. My recommendation for excellent schools is this school district. It is a large district, all in the suburbs, so you would have little to no "urban" problems with the kids. However, my husband's school has already interviewed and hired the new teachers for next school year. I suggest contacting the school district as soon as possible to find out whether there are any jobs left.
Another good school district in the Denver area is Littleton. |

There are also some great schools in DPS and there is quite an overhaul happening currently with the new superintendent, Michael Bennett. I live in the city as well and I think you could make a great impact here.
