I know I sound like a web blanket, but many postings bring many applicants. Land the job before you come, unless you want to do some time subbing or waiting tables.

Thank you

Read through this thread and do a search for other teaching threads for starts. Teaching jobs in Colorado are competitive, but obviously someone gets hired! I wouldn't worry too much about the district, just get the job. Then you can proceed with where to live, which would ideally not be too far away.

I work for Douglas County and there were over 5,000 applicants for a few hundred positions. It is competitive, and I agree....definitely secure a job before coming here. I moved from Michigan and started the process in January and was hired mid-May. Most out of state applicants cannot apply for jobs until the middle of March, beginning April anyway. But, you do want to get your certification stuff figured out with the CDE because they take FOREVER.

I agree completely with securing a job before relocating. Highlandsgal, how long did your certification take to be processed? They have had my packet for over a month now. Also, what do you teach? Do you recommend applying starting in January? Any advice you can give is great!

JenG23, my application packet was mailed out in early February of last year and I got my Colorado teaching certificate in June or July I think. They only certified me to teach my major but not my minor, and my recent LD endorsement in MI needs to go through the process again with the CDE in order for them to add it on to my certificate.
I teach 7th grade health and computers here.....but am certified K-12 for Health and P.E. here. In MI, I am certified K-5 all subjects, K-12 Health and P.E., K-12 Reading, and K-12 Learning Disabilities. Don't expect all of your certifications to transfer!!
You probably cannot apply until sometime in march, when all of the out-of-state applicants and new teachers can apply.

Thanks! Also, another question for anyone and I have searched the threads and have not found the answer. I currently teach at a private independent school, and I have been looking at the P.I. schools in the Denver area. I know here in W. PA the private teachers salary is terrible in comparison to the public schools, but often it is easier to find a teaching job in the private sector. Does anyone know if this is the same situation in the Denver area as well? Thanks!

Another good school district in the Denver area is Littleton.

How is that possible? Teachers haven't signed there intent to renew or bridge contract to even let the school know if they are staying or not. I find that hard to believe that a school district has hired teachers that are still under contract of another school.

Um, the above quote you are referring to was posted in June, which totally makes sense for the 2007-2008 school year

Highlandsgal, do you recommend going to the teachers fair? I was considering flying out for the Greeley one at the end of March. Where you able to secure your job before moving to Denver? I am just wondering how the process worked for you, I am hoping the CDE get's my license processed before March. They have now had it for a month, and waiting on the fingerprint portion. Yikes.

My wife and I are going through the same process. She if filing her paper work for Colorado and will wait till the bridge contracts are sent out. And from there she will interview (hopefully), and snag a teaching job.
