I would reiterate: do not set your sights on just one district. Apply everywhere that has openings in your field. It's very competitive.

I applied to districts from St. Vrain down to Douglas County, east to Aurora and West to Arvada (Jefferson Co.). I didn't go to any job fairs -- and I was actually interviewed and hired via phone (strange experience!)

It was like another full-time job applying for all the separate districts, plus mailing out individual "job packets" for each job, plus checking all the districts' web sites daily for postings......but, it was all worth it in the end! You just have to really want it, plan ahead, be organized, and have some luck!!

Highlandsgal, sorry to keep asking questions! I did wonder how early did you begin applying for jobs? Did you wait until March or start earlier? I definately really want to do this, and I am desperately trying to plan ahead and stay organized! (Must be the teacher in me ) Thanks for all of your responses!

Default Teaching in Denver

I am relocating in June of 08. I am currently teaching in NY and hope to do the same in denver. Is it difficult to find teaching jobs in Denver?

I don't really remember! I believe I mailed out my initial packets to each school district by the end of March, and did their online apps. I did my fingerprints in MI in February and mailed them to the CBI right away. I also mailed in my application to the CDE by the end of February.

Still, you cannot apply for any specific postings for a particular school or district until they open up to the general public....anywhere from mid-March until May or beyond. I just looked through some paperwork and I did my phone interview on May 11th of this year.

I am also a teacher from California via GA and now moving to Colorado. I have always taught at inner-city schools but I have an 8 year old who needs a good school district so I am not sure where to even look. My concern is my age. I have been teaching for 15 years and only have about 10 more years before retirement and I am afraid I won't be able to find a job.
