Where in NY do you live? I lived in Orange County - small town named Washingtonville, close to Newburgh, for many years. Good luck.

Hi, my husband and I relocated this summer from TN. One word of advice- start looking for jobs EARLY. I started as soon as I found out we would be moving for sure (early June) and was unable to find a position for this school year. I believe part of the problem was the paperwork required for a CO license. I took the PLACE exam in June and sent all my paperwork in by the third week of June. I received my license the last week of September. I'm a school counselor, so I'm hoping something comes open after Christmas, but if not, job fairs begin as early as February. Good Luck!

Teachers in CO
Hi all! I'm planning on moving from MI to CO in the next while. I'm a special education teacher hoping to find a job in a strong growing district. I'm capable of teaching in urban and suburban areas...what districts are strong? What districts are in the Metro Denver area? Which ones are looking for teachers? Finally, what is the need for teachers of learning disabilities in CO?

Do a search.....I've posted about this in other threads. I moved from MI this summer and now teach in CO. I can tell you it is a long, involved process that I started in early last January. Check out the CDE (Colorado Department of Education) website for additional info.
Competition for jobs is definitely tight, but not as bad as it is in Michigan at the moment.

As stated, teaching is competitive here. Don't worry about the district. Just finding the job will be an accomplishment. You can do a google search to find the districts in CO. They tend to be large here in the metro area (for example), all of Jefferson Co. is in one district, named, aptly enough, Jefferson County.

Teaching jobs in CO
Hello all...currently living in FL and I'm considering a move to CO to teach. Would probably rent for a couple of years while holding on to my townhouse on the beach and see if CO life is for me before making any major decisions. I grew up in New England and would actually welcome the winter (and change of seasons) again after living in FL for 10 years. Seems most of the positive postings on areas to live (that appeal to me) are either the Denver area, Ft. Collins, or Durango. I'd welcome opinions from anyone but would really appreciate opinions from those who have made the move to CO or more specifically, those who moved to the state to teach. I am a single male and the major question I have would be "are you making it financially" on a teaching salary? If not, has picking up a second job put a damper on enjoying the CO lifestyle? Would you do it again with the knowledge that you have now?
