So my friend from college and her hubby are doing a house swap with me for a week this fall. I'll be staying at their place downtown in late November. I'm really hoping that I'll have the opportunity to do some world-class skiing in the Rockies. My question is, are there any places you suggest checking out? I really want to make the most out of this trip. I'll be renting a car with a 180 mile a day limit so leaving and exploring a bit isn't out of the question.

Hate to disappoint but you're most likely not going to get "world class skiing" in November in the Rockies.

Emphasis on the "hoping" part

So what else would you like to do while you are in Colorado? November is still kind of the shoulder season, before there's enough snow for good skiing.

Is the 180 mile a day limit calculated daily or do you just need to average that over the course of the trip? I rent cars almost every week but I've never had a mileage limit.

That opens things way up! Are you open to spending a night or two at a hotel?

Default New Yorker curious about Denver culture/lifestyle

I am going to be visiting Denver later this year (doing an apartment swap with an old college buddy). We talk a lot about the differences between a place like NYC and Denver. I'm curious to know your thoughts. Is it true, like she says, that people are much less materialistic and more laid back? She told me it's a good way to get away from the rat race of the bigger cities. Also, if you really want to appreciate it you have to be someone who likes outdoors and nature. It's still apparently transient but not anywhere near the level of NYC. Are these stereotypes or truth?
