Hello,
My name's Heather. My boyfriend and I are relocating from Ohio to or near the Denver area around Mid January. We aim on finding a studio or one bedroom apartment. Unfortunately, no one thus far has been able to secure us a spot, or put us on any kind of waiting list to be have a place ready for us to move into when we arrive mid January. I'd love some guidance as to how other's have successfully made an out of state move to this area, and suggestions on who to contact/where to look. I would feel much more at ease if I knew that we would 100% have a place to call home as soon we get there. Thank you so much in advance!
Heather

Hi Heather,

We made the move five years ago from Illinois to Denver. We started with renting an apartment. Most places won't actually know their availability until about 2 months out at the most so you may not be able to secure a rental till mid-November. If you can apartments are probably the way to go first until you get settled in an area. Do you have a job lined up yet? If so let me know and I can help you with some areas you might want to start your search in.

Where are your work locations?
Pets? Dogs? If yes, then what breeds?

Thanks for the response! That's what I've found, everywhere I've contacted told me to try again in November...I would just feel more comfortable knowing I'll be able to find a place in my budget exactly when I'm ready to move. I don't have a job yet, I'm actually just looking for a serving job for when I get down there. I have 4 years of experience and would like to continue serving until I get situated and back on my feet. I'm thinking maybe the Denver, Aurora area?

Denver or Aurora most likely... I'm not sure what else is really nearby?
No pets!
Thanks for the reply.

How much are you thinking of spending on a rental? It is not cheap here. I hope you have some reserves when you come out here.

We're looking for something 1,000 or below a month. We have about 1 years worth of rent saved up.

1. I think your budget is too low. By $300-$500.
2. My suggestion would be to mark your work locations on a map, draw a line between them and then try to find something near that line.

Your price range is low for Denver, and even Aurora. If you have $10,000 saved up, that's not a year's worth of rend here. Plus you are coming without a job/income? Why would a landlord want to tie up a property starting in January when that's months away and you may or may not even end up moving here? I'm not saying that about you personally, just that it's a long way off and if they have someone who wants to rent right now, that's who they are going to rent to.

You may be better off planning on using something like Airbnb for when you first get here, get jobs lined up and then look for a rental once you know where you'll be working and you have an income to make you a qualified renter.
