Good Morning!

I'm a transplant from the southeast who currently resides in New Mexico. I'm considering a move to Colorado, Boulder or Lakewood to be exact. I'm requesting a transfer with my current employer due to long wait times and lack of options for healthcare, particularly specialists, in Albuquerque. Yes we have a few hospitals but the wait time to see specialists is painful. I'm battling some serious health issues and I'd like to have better options. I've been researching healthcare in a few states, Colorado and Virginia are at the top of my list, right now so I thought I'd come to ask the experts . Would you mind sharing your thoughts on healthcare in the areas that I've mentioned? I've been to Colorado a few times and really enjoyed the time that I spent there. Everyone was lovely, the traffic was meh but that about sums up most major metro areas so no complaints from me In addition to your thoughts on healthcare, where would you recommend a single, 30 something look for housing if working in those areas? I've lived in CA and DC so expensive housing doesn't scare me that much.

Thank you in advance for any guidance that you can offer. Have a wonderful week all!

^^ This. If anything, Denver is quite over saturated for certain specialists due to its desirable location and the fact that many providers want to live there. From the patient's perspective, this can be a benefit in terms of accessibility and wait times. The Denver market also has considerable hospital choices.

Where is your employer located in Denver ? What is your budget for rent ?

Also, you may want to check with your employer's group health plan ( if you have that), and find out what hospitals, etc are in-network in Denver area.

We have an office in Golden, Boulder, and Lakewood. I will definitely look at our insurance coverage in the area. Thank you!

Just anecdotal, but when my son was born he had a fairly rare issue that required surgery. We were able to go to the surgeon who pioneered the surgery and along with a doctor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is considered the best in the world at the procedure. It was always funny to see the looks on the staff’s faces when they asked us where we had traveled from and we replied “down the street”.

My mom has a genetic issue that impacts her lungs. Her sister has the same condition and lives near Raleigh, NC. My mom found a doctor at National Jewish who sees nobody but patients with this condition. Her sister’s doctor had only seen a few cases.

We moved from St Louis 5.5. years ago and have found the healthcare options here to be much better. My son and I use Kaiser because of the way it is set up. All Dr's, specialists, x-ray system, pharmacy etc. is all in the one building. This really came in handy when my son broke his arm and we didn't have to wait for x-rays or go to several different buildings to get everything done. In St Louis. it was the norm to have to go to several different buildings. So yep, we have had a great experience here in Colorado with health care.

We moved from New Mexico to Colorado for healthcare for my son. While we live in North Colo Springs, we travel to Denver for medical. Much better specialists than our old state. Hands down!

In that case, if you can pick the Golden office, and find housing in the Golden/West Arvada area, then switching to, or occasionally traveling to the other 2 would not be a huge change.
