Not trying to steal the thread, just curious why so many people dislike Lakewood? I rarely see it suggested here. I’m still relatively new to Denver and I don’t know all the neighborhoods well. I looked at housing near Cap Hill and Highlands and it was just to conjusted for my tastes, but I can see the appeal.

I live around the Bel Mar area and absolutely love it, whenever I see people mention Lakewood on this forum it’s usually met with some criticism. Ha

I’m a midwest kid though and I enjoy the blue collar, live and let live vibe here while also being a fairly quick drive to downtown.

I don’t dislike Lakewood. Bel Mar is nice. Good access to the mountains being in the west side of town near 6th Ave.

I work in Lakewood and used to live in Golden. To me, Lakewood is similar, but a bit better than Aurora. Lakewood has rail access to Denver (also Aurora), the Bel Mar shopping/dining area, the Denver Federal Center for those kind of jobs, and is close to many other suburbs.

It really depends where you work. If you work around DTC, then Centennial, Parker (I also lived there, not bad), and others around there are better than North suburbs. I25 traffic... is just almost unbearable. I commute from Broomfield to Lakewood and Denver and it's not bad, but the drive home is forever. I25 traffic would be completely unbearable if you live someplace like Westminster and work in Greenwood Village. I personally like the Broomfield/northern Westminster area. They're building a lot of retail and residential stuff. Maybe someday within 5 years Thornton will get the N Commuter Rail line to Denver, but for now, there are express busses.

Lots of nice areas.
