Budget hotels??
I will be visiting Denver in a couple of weeks and I want to book a room in a cheaper hotel. I checked online and the cheapest one was Budget Travel Inn on 2747 Wyandot st. Has anyone stayed there?? Any info will be helpful. Is the neighborhood save? It's only $40 per night and it is close to downtown.
Thanks!

It would not be safe to stay in that neighborhood.Unfortunately you will have to cough up the cash if you want to stay in Denver.

This is in the Highlands neighborhood and it's very safe to stay there. The previous poster is completely wrong on this one.
The hotel itself, however, is pretty run down, and I think that $40 rate only applies if you take it for a whole week. There are two hotels next door (a brand new Hampton Inn and a Residence Inn, both very nice, and likely much more expensive.

Thank you tfox. I read the reviews and I realize it will be run down for this price but I am used to staying at hostels and budget hotels. I would rather spend the extra cash on fun things to do. Thus I can afford to travel more frequently and visit more places without going bankrupt. I will most likely be moving to Denver in a couple of months so I am trying to get a feel of the place and check out some neighborhoods. All I wanted to know was whether the neighborhood was safe so I can walk around. Thanks

If you want safe and cheap, check out hotwire/expedia or something like that and book a room in the Denver Tech Center (DTC) / Greenwood Village. The hotels down there cater to business travelers. Usually they're $20-40/night. If you're driving, it's really not that far (10-15mi) considering the difference in price vs. downtown.

If you really want safe and cheap, don't forget Couchsurfing.com.
My kids have used it in Europe but there are plenty of American members as well.
There are 12 pages of Denver members.

I am staying at the Melbourne Hostel right now. It's $34 a night and it is clean, safe, and close to downtown. 2 blocks. The neighborhood a couple blocks north is bad, but here it's fine. A little rough around the edges looks wise, but otherwise great. I haven't had any problems. I am used to staying at the Hyatt or sheraton so this was a BIG change for me, but I like it so far. I would still prefer a fancy hotel but this suits me just fine.

I just returned from staying the weekend at the Budget Host. The hotel itself is pretty bad...broken down, zero extras, uncomfortable beds (if you are use to firm pillows bring your own) and unfriendly, unhelpful staff. As far as the neighborhood goes and the location it was just fine. My daughter and I (she's 21 and I am 39, females) walked everywhere and went out after dark. No problems and no one even made us feel nervous. We walked downtown and had a great time. Shop some more though. The Budget Host leaves much to be desired.

Go to Orbitz.com and select the Days Inn in Englewood then apply coupon code 50AFFORB for $50 off a 3 night stay or more. If you stay 3 or more nights it comes out to like $120 or $40 per night with tax. It is a really nice hotel for the price and the reviews are stellar
