The question is have you factored in the higher income taxes and property taxes enough to offset? In Denver you’ll pay about $4200 a year in taxes on at $750K house. Same house in Carlsbad will cost you $8100 a year.

If you make between $52K and $260K a year, California is going to take 9.3% of it. Colorado will take 4.63%.

If you drive much, Carlsbad is currently about $3.60 a gallon. Denver is $1 cheaper.

Sales tax rate in Carlsbad is 7.75% compared to Denver at 7.65% so no real savings there.
Yeah, Vehicle registration is crazy too !

It’s more a compromise, her family lives there. I’d rather stay in Denver.

That said, we always live under our means, shouldn’t be too bad.

It rarely stays in the teens during the day in the Winter. At night maybe. The poster you responded to makes it sounds like our weather is like North Dakota or Wisconsin. A lot of people move because of the weather.

Your property tax bill? How is that possible? Mine went up $300 from last year.

Coming soon to a Coloradofornia near you!

FREE Childcare for ALL (FREE!) a.k.a. Pre-K-Kindergarten

FREE Universal Healthcare (FREE!)

This is IF Polis gets elected (he says so on his TV ads) but since we are going to be like CA. soon (if not already) expect more of the same.

How much are homeowners going to be asked to "pitch in" for these pie-in-the-sky dreams?

We work and are childless (due to the known costs of raising kids) so we are kind of curious.

Dont want to get into the numbers but Denver re evaluated my property, they do that every 2 years on up swing years. Every 4 yeas on down years. The new evaluation went up a LOT. The tax bill reflected the new evaluation.

It gets cold. It snows a lot. I never drew any comparisons to the Midwest or East Coast.

I work evenings and outdoors. It's not pleasant. Why pay a premium to live in a place with winter weather and snow?

Because a lot of people LIKE winter weather and snow? And not just to drive up to the mountains to ski, they like to play in the snow and do winter activities at home too. If you don't care for it, that's fine, but it's silly to assume everyone shares your preferences.

And the fact that so many people are willing and eager to pay a premium to live in Denver speaks for itself.
