if you find a way to get there without going through the mountains, can you find me a route to Australia that doesn't involve flying over water. I hate flying over water.

Ok, I'm embarrassed to admit this but I can relate. Mountain driving in general doesn't bother me too much but those parts out of the tunnel DO. BUT, for me, I KNOW it's the combination of 1) going downhill at high speeds (several lanes across) with turns. If it were 35 mph it would not phase me! I have never liked it as a passenger AND I have never had to drive it even though I've been over and back countless times over the decades, both while living there (for both pleasure and work) and on vacation.

That said, if forced to drive it I would just go at my own pace on the right and let others pass and I'm sure I'd survive just fine. You will too!

My twin! I feel the same way! If there were no/few cars angrily tailgating me and I could go 35, that would be perfect. I'm happy to zipline across canyons, but this makes me nervous!

There's no way that I could zipline either. Just watching videos makes me want to puke.
