Why do you ask? Do you think the whole city could be polluted or contaminated?

According to the United States Department of Energy, which managed the site and its cleanup after it was closed in 1994, there is no known contamination beyond the site. Read their facts PDF: http://www.lm.doe.gov/documents/site...rockyflats.pdf

All this information on the quality of water is available from many sources, both federal and state. Every year, the city of Arvada, issues a report to the citizens about the water in the city. The Current report as of June 2007 is:
http://arvada.org/docs/1182346467websiteCCR2007.pdf It will provide you interesting information about the source of Arvada Water. I think this will help you understand the complex system of water management in this area. As for you other questions, I have no concerns about dangers from the former Rocky Flats site. Please read the report from the other poster. Many years ago when this plant was in operation, there were warning devices around the area that would sent an alarm if there was an detection of a radiation leak. That was many years ago. All those detectors have been removed, to my knowledge. There use to be one outside the Standley Lake Library on Kipling. An important point in this report is to note that the Rocky Flats plant was only a very small part of the whole land area--as there was land buffers around the main processing facilities. Keep in mind, that Rocky Flats is closer to the Western Suburbs of Westminster as well as Southern Parts of Boulder County. I believe the issue has been addressed; I have attended numerous meeting over the years on this issue. In addition, I have spend time reading some of the reports at the Westminster Library at Front Range Community College which maintained a separate federally funded reading room with a librarian hired for this purpose. Yes, the entire city is radioactive. Despite the fact that it is tens of miles from rocky flats.
Seriously .... |
