(Denver specific) Employers leaving applicants hanging? (sales, employment, to move)

This looks like it should go in the Work and Employment section, but it is specifically about my experiences in Denver, which is why I put it here.

My wife has been job hunting since we moved here, has had several interviews, several follow ups, and then...nothing. No further contact from the employer, even to let her know they had decided not to move forward with her.

Is this normal for Denver (or Colorado in general)? Back east, it would be unheard of for an employer to just not contact you after going through the trouble of an interview, even if just to tell you they had gone with someone else or that you didn't have the background or experience they were looking for. It strikes me as very unprofessional and casts a negative light on the company.

But is this normal for this area? Or has she just had the misfortune of applying with companies that lack professionality and etiquette in this area?

Agreed and I think if you did post in the Employment forum, you'd hear confirmation of that. I think it's awful but it seems to be the new normal for a lot of employers.

I dealt with this in Chicago and dealt with it when I moved back to Denver. Absolutely infuriating, but sadly, it seems to be the new norm.

It's everywhere. Happening to me in L.A. too. I wish recruiters were a bit more straightforward and less flaky.

It also depends on the field. It's not very common in my field because everyone knows everyone, but also mostly people are recruited and the 'application' process is just to fill out paper work.

As an employer, I can tell you that you can get many hundreds of applicants for a job. It would be a full time job just to respond to all of them. Not right, yes, but reality.

Even the people you bring in for interviews? That's what the OP asked about. We all already know that the days of employers courteously acknowledging mere applicants is long past. This was about the people who take the time and effort to come in person for one, maybe even more than one, interview and still never get the courtesy of a follow up.

It depends on the job. I hire a lot of sales people. Follow up is one of things I judge people on. If they don't call me, I don't call them. I am a bad person. I know.
