Hey folks!

My best friend and I are flying from Atlanta to go skiing up at Snowmass Jan 31st - Feb 3rd. I've heard the horror stories on I-70, so I've planned the flights accordingly ( esp on Sunday returning )

Since we'll have a few hours to kill technically, if there was a must eat place that would be reflective of Denver, what do you guys recommend? Some people who have visited have told me Torchy's is something to try, but, I'm always open to options!

Also, en route to Aspen, we're going to take a pit stop over in Glenwood Springs for the hot springs a brief look I see there's two main places, Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, and Iron Mountain Hot Springs. Does anyone have experience with them? The main difference I can see is one is a giant ass pool, the other is smaller, hot tub like experiences.

Third, being that we'll be staying at Snowmass Village, near Aspen, are there any recommended must eat places to try out while in Aspen? I can Yelp all day long, but I tend to prefer feedback from non-review sites too.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to the altitude sickness!

My favorite restaurant in Denver right now is Tavernetta. I also highly recommend Mercantile.

Iron Mountain is relatively new but I’ve heard it is a much more adult, mellow experience.

As for dining in Aspen and Snowmass, there are tons of great choices. Matsuhisa is awesome but super $$$$. I recommend having a drink at J-Bar in Hotel Jerome. Love that spot.

I second the Merchantile in Denver.
The Pullman in Glenwood Springs is great, if you want to eat in town.
If you want a great meal in Aspen, try the Little Nell. Their chef’s tasting menu was one of the best meals I’ve had in Colorado, but you’ll pay for it.
For cheaper eats, White House Tavern.

The Wild Fig in Aspen is not to be missed! Celebrity chefs eat there when they come to town for The Aspen Food & Wine Magazine Classic.

And if you go to Mercantile, it puts you in Union Station, which is an ideal location downtown in close proximity to other places worth going to. Skip Torchy's. It's a chain place out of Austin.

I have been to the Glenwood Springs pool only once, and that was many years ago, before I ever had any indication that I would live in Colorado. It is indeed, a big pool attached to the resort. It's also located pretty much right off of I-70. Nonetheless, I did enjoy it when I went there. Can't comment on the Iron Mountain hot springs.

Must you stop in Denver? Aspen has a perfectly fine airport with non-stop commercial flights across the country. Denver's a fine city but nothing kills a great ski weekend than dealing with I70 traffic. 4+ hours on I70 with snow on Vail Pass or Eisenhower is just frustrating on end.

Dang.....I hate when I do that. Fortunately, it doesn't happen that often, LOL.

sophiapinella apparently just found this forum and has been dredging up old threads. Easy for us to get sucked in, thinking that it is a recent question.
