At the height of rush hour, it can take 45 minutes or so, barring major accidents. My spouse also sometimes takes E-470, a toll road, to the airport. That can be faster if there are traffic disruptions on I-225 and/or I-25. It’s farther on E-470, but the traffic flows more smoothly. The nice thing about this part of town is that we have a couple of options for getting to and from the airport.

Given the budget for a home, I say find the right home first, and then send the kids to private school if the public schools aren't good. Even CCSD is a public school district. <shrugs>

When it comes to Cherry Creek School district here is what I know from helping people in the past.

The elementary schools are all quite well rated. Of course, there are going to be some higher than others such as Cherry Hills Village Elementary and Willow Creek Elementary.

Middle schools I would look at Campus Middle Schools, West Middle School, and Fox Ridge.

High Schools I would look for Cherry Creek High, Grandview High, and/or Cherokee Trail High School.

The fun part is finding the right neighborhoods in your price point with the right blend of schools for you.

Not sure how much house you are looking for, but $1.5M in Cherry Creek is going to come with a lot of compromises if you are expecting a big, newer home.

I live very near Cherry Creek and 4br new builds are ~$2.2. 6000 sq/ft lots with old homes on them are selling for $900K and then the houses are being demolished so they can be built on.

Cherry Creek the neighborhood is awesome for proximity to downtown, shopping, and dining. The elementary school is fantastic, but middle and high school are less good. DPS is a large urban school district and has all the stuff that goes along with that. I have friends who have sent their kids all the way through DPS and they are well adjusted kids who have gotten in to top universities. As a family, I would prefer to live just north in Congress Park, or just southwest in Washington Park as opposed to Cherry Creek itself. Lots more families in these two neighborhoods. Steele is the elementary in Wash Park and we have lots of neighbors with young kids here. They really enjoy it. We opted for private school because it was a better fit for us, but I would be happy to send my kids to Steele as well. Again, middle and high school are a bit less good.

Cherry Creek School district is top notch for public schools in Denver metro. It going to put you in more suburban housing, but you’ll get more for your money than you will in the city. As others have said, look to Greenwood Village and feed in to Cherry Creek High School. For what it’s worth, the Denver burbs are nothing special. They’re like burbs in my]any other places. I think Denver’s older city neighborhoods really set it apart.

I would.

Personally, with your budget, I would look at a development like Tallyn's Reach or somewhere similar in the 80016 area.
The Tallyn's Reach area feeds into a good HS (Cherokee Trail) and is within good commuting distance to the airport via E-470.

I should add, at twice a week to dIA, if you’re not looking at Stapleton, you’re doing yourself a major disservice. Schools are great and tons of young families.
