Hi all! I've posted here a couple of times but as time moves forward my wife & I are looking at relocating to the Denver area.

Moving from the Bay Area (FWIW neither of us subscribe to the predominant political atmosphere here.) Both of us are more "do what you want as long as I don't have to pay for it" type people. Love the libertarian streak CO has.

I have a promotion potential for a company located in Lakewood. My wife is a PA specializing in oncology/hematology. Are there are cancer clinics/hospitals that she might look at? Obviously closer to Lakewood, the better.

We don't have a family yet but it's moving in that direction. However schools aren't a priority at this time.

We both are in to hiking, nature, kayaking, biking, board games, archery, off roading, beer/breweries, attending sports games, shopping (her), and dogs/dog parks. Though neither of us are into it, we appreciate the personal freedom of legal cannabis and especially how it helps cancer patients.

We would ideally like to spend no more than $2500 in rent sans utilities. Buying a house is out of the question until we rent for a year to get a feel on the area.

The more wild the weather the better! Give me more snow, thunderstorms, rain (although CO is dry), wind. An area with any parks or trees is a plus too!

Are there any areas that you would recommend we look into? I don't know where the hospitals/cancer clinics are in relation to Lakewood but hopefully close. On a map Golden looks ideal but I don't know how far it is. I would move to Evergreen for the trees but that is probably too far for her.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

We're not known for our trees. Denver is on the edge of the Great Plains, so it's more dry grassland.

The best place to rent for a year and check things out is probably Golden. It checks all the boxes you mention except trees. If you feel Golden is too liberal, head to the Southside of town.

I would put the Socialist Paradise of the City & County of Denver off your list.

I would think that as a PA your wife would have access to the type of information she would need to find a job in her field. PAs seem to be used pretty extensively here. My husband is currently a patient at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute, which is on the east side of Denver, and they have a lot of PAs. Rocky Mountain Cancer Center has an office in Lakewood, as well as a number around the metro area.

Ah this is the type of information I was looking for. Thanks! I'll have her start to scout some of these places for potential employment.

I have no problem with liberal or any other political ideology as long as it is balanced out & not militant.

When we visited, Golden was a nice town and we enjoyed it. On a map another CD member posted, Golden looks close to the more forested areas west. I get that Denver is on the plains and doesn't have many trees/brown 8 months out of the year (save for the snow).

Thanks!

Colorado is not some purple nirvana, and in reality, it's not particularly Libertarian. Denver and Boulder and some other areas are quite liberal, some other parts of the state are red including Douglas County, near Denver but generally speaking, further away from Denver is where you'll find the more conservative areas. It's not accurate to say that the Denver metro is balanced in terms of political ideology.

ETA: of course that's not the sole determinant for moving, but just wanted to be sure you weren't coming here with a false impression

Well yes, not the determinant factor. The promotion is the primary although mountains and wild weather don't hurt either!

I figure Denver is like most other places where the city itself is blue and surrounded by purple then red as you move outward.

As long as you're aware of and okay with the fact that after the 2018 election, our state goverment in Colorado is completely controlled by Democrats - our governor is a Democrat, as are the attorney general, state treasurer, and secretary of state, and Democrats have control of both the Senate and the House.

If you've never been to Denver before, I've got some light reading material here.

And I think the Dems are foolishly misreading the election results. Yes, we had a blue wave, but all the big-ticket liberal ballot initiatives failed. There hasn't been a major shift in ideology. The Dems were elected because of Trump fatigue. If they don't slow down and start governing more pragmatically they're gonna find their more vulnerable legislators targeted for recall.
