Default Moving to Denver next month

Hey everyone,

Like so many of you, I too will be relocating to Denver. I have a position lined up at University of Colorado Hospital. I'm an RN and don't really care too much about commuting as I'll be doing so around 6am and 8pm. I just need to know where I should rent--I have a 6 month old baby and a husband who will be working from home, so ideally I would love to find a 3+ bedroom house with a yard in a safe family friendly neighborhood (sidewalks, parks, etc). There has been a lot of replies regarding SE Aurora--what zip codes should I be looking at? Any other recommendations?

TIA,
KB

Default A little more detail...

I apologize...we are looking to rent, ideally around $1000 but willing to go up to $1500.

The Stapleton redevelopment would be an awesomely close place for you to live. It's a really nice, new neighborhood that is very, very close to Anschutz (CU hospital) - the zip code is 80238. Other neighborhoods that you might try are Lowry (kind of pricey) - 80230 and Montclair/South Park Hill/Mayfair 80220 - be sure to stay west of Quebec in 80220. I live in the 80220 area and work for the University downtown...occassionally go to meetings at Anschutz and it is a super easy commute. Good luck with the move.

I don't know much about SE Aurora...its not really my cup of tea.

Augie- just curious as to why you say that. We are looking at houses in that area and what is wrong with just east of Quebec, like around Roslyn or Rosemary and 12th/13Aves.?

There is a bit of a dropoff in desirability directly east of Quebec. Crime is a bit higher. In fact, there was a recent murder at 14th and Valentia. Personally, I would be willing to live near the streets you mentioned - great value for the type of home. I just think most families would not feel as safe in this area as they would in the other areas.

FYI...if you are serious about buying into the East Colfax neighborhood, you should know that the area would qualify you for the Metro Mortgage Assistance Program - :: The Denver Office of Economic Development :: Metro Mortgage Assistance :: - a very valuable and probably underutilized program.

Thank you so much! We originally started out thinking we didn't want to go east of Quebec just for commuting purposes, but there are some listings a couple streets over that look like a great deal. And, thanks for the link about the assistance too; we are hoping to utilize a program like that.

There are many people in Stapleton who work at Anschutz, but I doubt you'd find anything to rent in Stapleton for $1000 per month. I think 2 bdr. condos are in the $1700 range. There are a some new income qualified condos for sale that could work. I think they're in the low $100Ks and from what I've heard, people like fireman, cops, teachers, nurses, etc. buy them. Professionals in professions that don't pay 6 figures.

You should be able to find something in SE Aurora around your price range. I'd search 80013 and 80011 (the areas I am most familiar with). I am around the Quincy/E470 at it takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to UCHSC/Fitz. There is also a development called Murphy Creek which is a Jewell/Gun Club Road (a bit closer). It might be worth a look -- as I saw some affordable rentals in that area listed on Craig's list.
