They call it "Stinky City" for a reason.

Commerce City is two very distinct areas: an older city mainly of heavy industry in the south, and some newer residential areas to the far northeast (many miles from the heavy industry, actually). The residential areas are mostly right off E-470 and are fairly nice and convenient to DIA, though far from virtually everything else. Reunion is an example of one of the neighborhoods there, and residents of the neighborhood tend to have nothing but good things to say about it.
The older part of Commerce City is better known for refineries and factories than housing. The little bit of housing you'll find there is mostly very low income areas. |

Many years ago Commerce City used to be called Derby. I used to live in Commerce City and it isn't as bad as people make it out too be, however what makes it stinky is the the heavy industry there which includes the refinery. For many years, Commerce City's real estate prices were near the bottom of the barrel for the Denver Metro Areas, for housing. However, with the shortage of land for developers, every scrap of land around Denver is being developed or is in the process of being developed, mostly by these developers who buy large tracts of land, sub divide them and put houses all over them.., even in areas that used to be swamp land!
Commerce City is growing, by leaps and bounds. Its a blue collar city, mobile home parks, trailer courts, Wal Mart, trucking companies, a city dump and recycling center, lots of lower Middle Class housing. As for twowolves comment, you might look on mapquest. Last edited by in_the_gloaming; 04-14-2008 at 04:00 PM. Reason: edit |
