Okay, well the snow finally arrived; I now see what you were talking about. I suppose it must have hit sooner in Brighton than it did here.

If you are planting the proper types of plants for this time of year then you should not have any issues at all. Even though places are selling petunias, etc. they should not be planted yet.

Pansies are great this time of year. Perennials can be planted. Bushes can be planted. Roses, unless bare root cannot.

The general rule of thumb I go by is Mother's Day for the more tender plants, and even then you have to be careful.

Snow won't hurt anything unless it gets too heavy and you have to bang it off so things don't break. The bigger problem is late freezes. Snow will actually act like a blanket for plants and can help protect them if a hard freeze is expected.

The weather here is SO UNPREDICTABLE. You CANNOT schedule anything too far in advance, as the weather forecast will change 5 times before that day comes.

It's been spitting in Louisville since about 11:30 AM. Seems to be snowing a little harder now. Also sun is out a bit! The latest snow I have ever seen is June 4, 2005, the day my daughter graduated from high school. That was in Boulder.

I've seen snow on Memorial Day weekend, but not later than that, though it was just a few isolated flakes. I suppose the 2005 storm must have not happened in Denver, since I don't recall that one.

It just snowed early in the morning, then rained most of the rest of the day. It was not really a "storm", but it made the national news on some channel (probably the Weather Channel, LOL). My brother in PA saw it on TV.

Edit: Cute kid, Charles!

Maybe you guys complaining should move to Phoenix, where it's sunny and no wind almost every single day out of the year (except for the monsoon season and occasional winter rainy days), where the temperatures barely change at all day to day, daily low-high temperatures at 30-65 at it's coldest in January, NO snow, to 85-110 degrees in July and August. Over 3 months on average where it's over 100 degrees every single day. I'll gladly swap with you guys! I miss the icy cold and snow! Bring it on! Hopefully I'll be back in Denver permanently to live in just a year.

Charles, that pic of your daughter is absolutely adorable. And man does it bring memories! I remember the soccer makeup games in July, when it was awfully hot.
Lbear, it took years and years until it happened, but we too eventually tired of the extreme weather fluctuations in Denver, and we moved.
I appreciate your need to vent. I dunno what to say, there are weather issues everywhere, but Colorado does have extremes. When we moved to north Florida, my kid's soccer season began in November, but he never had to cancel a game.

I don't know about the network/radio media, but the NWS has had mention of snow for Saturday since early last week (at least in the discussion, which is archived - the icon things are chosen by computer and aren't always the most accurate). There is another system that has been showing in the models on and off for a chance of snow next Thurs/Fri. Low chance of panning out, but not out of the question.

Anywhere in the midlatitudes away from the moderating influence of the ocean is going to be prone to rapid changes in weather, particularly in spring. Orographic effects can exaggerate this across the mountain west.

On the other hand, if I had known how much I would hate low humidity, I would probably not have moved here.
