This is probably the thing I most hate about Denver - crap like SNOW on May 1st! I have two trees, full of leaves and flowers, that look like they're going to snap apart! GOD, can't it just freakin' RAIN in this city????????? Not to mention, it's 37 degrees at my house right now. How can it snow and be above freezing? Snow in winter is one thing, but this just wreaks havoc on the trees and makes gardening difficult!

This is actually normal weather for Denver. Get your rake and gently shake the snow
off the limbs. Your garden should be fine, as no hard freeze is expected tonight.

Yes, if you are home right now, just shake the snow off the trees. We've gotten up in the middle of the night many a times to insure branches don't snap.
Of course, if you're at work, maybe a nice neighbor can do it for you
We need the moisture so bad it's hard to complain - and knowing the weekend is looking nice, well it just makes it easier to do my yard work when the soil isn't a hard rock.

I know where you stole that line from
Yeah, I'm working from home and shook the snow off the trees. The snow has let up and temp. is up to 41, but still snowing a bit.

My sincere sympathies, Denverian.
I've been there and done that--in *late* May.
Colorado can be a tough place for an avid gardener.
If there isn't a hard freeze, your trees might bend a bit, but should be okay.
As the month rolls along, hopefully you will get rain instead of snow.

I've been in Denver for about 10 months now, and I actually like the weather a lot. But, I think spring may be my least favorite season. I know we need moisture, but rain would be great on May 1, not snow!

Flew into Portland this morning from DIA and am heading back to Denver now.
Heard it snowed a bit. I Love this weather!

The trees seem fine. It snowed like crazy for about a half hour, building up an inch on the grass. A couple hours later, it was all gone. My thermometer read 38 this morning before dawn, so I guess it didn't freeze. They say a high of 43 today, which I'd bet we surpass considering it's already almost there. I'm mostly worried about the predicted 28 tonight - could kill buds and leaves on trees. But then they give you the low for DIA which is always 3 - 5 degrees colder than in the city.

I've had many trees have the buds get killed back. One year one poor tree in particular had to have a go at it 3 times. But it survived - got leaves, looked beautiful that year. So even if you lose buds, don't panic.
It's the nature of the beast when living here. My first year I stressed and covered, etc. Now I don't even pay attention. There is nothing I can do about it and my philosophy is, if a plant/tree can't handle the fluctuations of the climate here then it doesn't belong.
So my yard consists of perennials and bushes and trees I don't have to worry about. I don't ever deal with annuals, although I have many that come back from seed. Marigolds like crazy, California poppies, snapdragons. It's always kind of fun seeing what pops up.

I'm am so glad I live here in California...I honestly don't know how you guys could handle getting snow and cold temps even in Spring.
I think it was a few years ago when you guys even had Snow on the first week of June.
