I'll admit Ive become jaded over time and the last few years I've cursed the weather reports calling for snow in the metro area. They USED to make me smile and think about good skiing, the peaceful, quiet sound of snow, and all the good things. But over the last few years the reports of snow made me think of dirty snow on the highway, long long long commute times, mudd and slush in the garage, etc. With these last couple of storms, however, I'm reminded why I love the Rocky Mountain western states. An ample amount of good, clean snow, the neighbors coming together to help shovel each others driveways...kinda makes me wanna listen to a John Denver CD.
It doesn't hurt that Santa brought season passes for the family!

Well, any of you can say anything you wish about the weather here, either in the summer or the winter, but one thing is FACT......we have both photos and video of some pretty nasty thunderstorms and pretty heavy snow fall and photos/video really DO tell how the weather is here. Especially for someone who is thinking about moving here from So. Calif. who has never lived in severe thunderstorms or "blizzard" like conditions before.
As far as the snowblower goes........we are in our late 50's and shoveling snow took A LOT of both of us. Now, for you "youngings" out there, you can just handle it better than we can. But, you just wait until you are in your late 50's and above. And, as far as our 4-wheel drive (for both vehicles), we wouldn't have a vehicle with out it, living here.
Another thing that gets us: some people here say, "winters can be so bad in other States" (which "can" be true), but there sure is a lot of people still living in Minnesotta, Michigan, Wisconsin and some other "snow States" that are fine living where they are.

There is no perfect place to live, as far as weather goes. There will always be some bad weather to complain about.
The fact is we do get bad weather, but the amount of good weather that we get far outweighs the bad.

Work in the snow?
My family and I are also going to be moving from CA in a year or so and my Husband has a job where he works outside. Would he typically be out of work during the winter or would he still work??? He works for a water well drilling company. Does anyone out there know anything about this???
Thank for any info you can supply.

Still another winter storm today:
TODAY'S FORECAST:
BLIZZARD conditions for the eastern plains today! This is a major winter storm system, and athough the metro area woke up to a "break" in the action, we can expect to get hit with waves of moderate to heavy snow off and on throughout the day. The metro area could get up to 8 inches of additional snowfall today, and that's on top of the 4 to 12 inches accumulation around the area. Heavy snow is expected in the foothills, where up to 20 inches accumulation can be expected. The northeast plains are under a blizzard warning today. High winds, drifting snow and visibilities less than a quarter of a mile can be expected throughout the day. Don't travel if you don't have to. Daytime temperatures will only be in the mid 20s.

Not sure about your husband and his work. Perhaps the company has its own policy concerning snow? There are some folks who work outside 12 months of the year, as long as its safe and the weather does not interfere with their job.

Everyone copes differently, still though Colorado is a much easier state to cope with winter wise than others, personally its good to see all this moisture hitting Colorado, I know you guys will hate to hear this but "you need the moisture," remember Colorado supplies water for many southwestern states and for my purely selfish reasons Lake Powell is gonna get a boost from all of this snow. Yee Haw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I recongnize that all is not fun with these storms. Of course, there are the snowy and icy roads to deal with, but a couple of other things have made these storms an inconvenience.
Last week our trash wasn't picked up at all due to round 1. Today is our trash day again and I can't imagine them getting their trucks through this slop. We've got 4 large trash cans full of garbage and now have to start bagging everything. I guess you never appreciate stuff like trash service until it gets interrupted.
I run a business and it has been hard to get and receive shipments. Went to FedEx yesterday afternoon and they had closed early. No telling when shipments will be going out. Still waiting on stuff that was ordered before Christmas to arrive.
There are stories on the news about grocery stores running out of items and some gas stations with no gas. There has been a run on snow shovels and snow blowers, so they are now hard to find in stores. Many stores had also closed early yesterday because of the storm.
Our plan today is to just stay home, put away the Christmas decorations, and do some digging out between the waves of snowfall.

question about electricity during snowstorms
Do you still have it in blizzard conditions? Do most Denver folk have/need generators?

We've seen some good snow in Highlands Ranch (maybe about 8"), but not a "blizzard". Winds are supposed to pickup today, so then it will officially become a blizzard. Right now we have a lull in the action, so I went out and used the snow thrower to clear the drive and sidewalks. That will be less to clear once the storm is over.

No one has one that I know of. It is not too often that we lose power. When we do, it usually is not out for too long.
