Job Transfer to Aurora: Get apt in Aurora, lodo, or ???
Hello,
I just accepted a job transfer to Aurora CO.
I need advice on which areas to live for a single professional who
wants to be close to the "dating scene" (23-32 yo range)
I am hoping to find an area within 15 minutes of work and not too
trafficy. I need to be able to sleep and be well rested to head out
the door for work 7AM so I can't live in an area that is loud during
the work week.
Do I need to live in "lodo" to be part of the dating scene or are
there other areas?? I prefer newer/nicer areas and don't mind
paying to live in the better areas. I am looking for a trendy 1
bedroom with a 1 car garage. (15 mins away)
Thanks!
Tom

Lodo isn't within 15 minutes of Aurora, and it's about 120 years old, so it's certainly not new. Most of the lofts there are converted from 19th century warehouses, though there are some newer infill buildings there. Also, few of the singles who go to lodo for nightlife actually live there (it's far too expensive), though some do. Lodo is the main center for nightlife, but there are others. There are actually more clubs (as opposed to bars) on Broadway, south of Colfax than there in Lodo. Capitol Hill also has a lot of nightlife.
I think you'd probably enjoy Riverfront Park area in the Central Platte Valley, which is walking distance to LoDo. It is a lot of new construction in former rail yards, but it's very expensive and not within 15 minutes of Aurora.
I'm not sure exactly where in Aurora your work is, so the 15 minutes would depend on where you are. Stapleton might also be a possibility. It's quite a popular neighborhood, and is very trendy, and entirely new, and it would be within 15 minutes of one part of Aurora.

I'd recommend Stapleton also. There are very nice new houses. Downtown will likely be too loud and/or expensive.
I was stationed at Buckley and cannot recommend living in or near Aurora. There are a lot of bad areas and probably not a good nightlife. I lived in Highlands Ranch, and while the commute sucked sometimes, it was at least safe and less expensive.
The DTC might also be a good option now that the light rail runs there, since you could get downtown and back safely for going out at night. Plus the drive up to Aurora for work wouldn't be too bad.

I am on Denver Craigslist searching apartments with a garage + washer.
1,514 choices in Denver.... So I need help with what "cities" to plug in
to narrow it down. Do far I heard Stapleton and DTC. Would those
be the best areas within 15-20 minutes of work that are new and
good for 23-32 yo singles??
I'll be working at 16800 E Centretech Pkwy, Aurora..
I am moving in 2 weeks so I have to figure things out soon...
Thanks!

Stapleton will be closer to your work and is a newer community with a lot of young families. I don't know about it being a big area for singles, it might be, especially in the condos and townhomes, it does have restaraunts, bars and is a short drive to nightlife downtown and on Colfax.

Tom,
I live in the Lowry area which is between downtown and your work. The Lowry Park Apartments (Alameda and Fairmount Drive in Denver) where I live are very nice, look them up online or call 303-537-3000. They have pools, on site gym, business center, and garages are available. I have a really nice townhouse with 2 car attached garage for $1350/month. Starting rents are about $800/month. Mention I sent you and I think they will waive your application fee.

Lowry Park Apartments look very nice. Do you notice whether it's a singles
complex or a married couples kind of place?
The 2/2 with 2 Car Garage would be perfect except that the floorplan shows a
fireplace where the TV and theater speakers should go. Looks like a tough room
for home theater...

If you plan on enjoying the nightlife stay west of Colorado. There are quite a few places between 25th and 1st west of Colorado Blvd and east of Broadway that will meet your requirements, some old and refurbished, some new. The upside to this location is that you are in walking distance of a great number of local bars and easy bus/bike distance of the meat markets in LODO all while being within an easy 14th or 17th street commute of Aurora.
Simply ignore DTC. Stapleton and Lowry are likewise too far away from the areas you are looking for easy access to.

I just recently left my job at Raytheon for a relocation -- not a bad commute depending on where you're coming from.
I lived down by the DTC which I thought was great. The light rail was awesome for going downtown but I didn't have to pay to live downtown. Lots of nice apartments in that area. Driving up and down 225 wasn't awful and if traffic was bad, I took side roads from DTC and it was fine.
I don't know much about the nightlife in Stapleton. It might not have a lot within walking distance to you, and I know a lot of young-ish families that moved there when all the new houses went up.
Lowry is also not walking distance to anywhere, but it is nice.
West of Colorado has a lot of nice stuff, but I don't think your commute would be great. I had to make it to Cherry Creek from Buckley in rush hour a few times and it was pretty bad.
Like others have said, downtown is probably not the best option.
I hope you have a smooth transition -- I loved my job at Raytheon and was sorry to go.
