I remember Ron Lyle very well.
I saw one of his fights, and saw him in person at some event at the May Company. It's good that he managed to turn his life around.
I worked for awhile at the Marriot on Hampden, and the Broncos used to come there for huge breakfasts. I literally ran into Lyle Alzado there one Sunday.
Bill Daniels was a good man who left quite a legacy, as was Daddy Bruce.

BWP is right. Daddy Bruce will always be a huge figure in Denver's history. Just a great man!
Ron Lyle- everytime I think of Lyle I think of that classic battle with George Foreman. I can't remember if that fight was a four or a five rounder, but what a fight that was, it was televised on ABC. Lyle was at his peak at that time. I'm guessing May of 1975(?)

DRB85650.........
I remember going to work the night Elvis bought all those cars.........around 11-13, I think .........naturally all the talk throughout the dept was Elvis buying the Officers caddies......He was vacationing in Vail and decided to drive down to Denver to buy everyone in his entoruage a car. That night, Capt Kennedy, Det Pietrofeso and Det Cantwell each got one, as well as the city's physician, Dr Gerald Starkey. They went to the Cadilac dealer at 8 th and Broadway. Kennedy ran the Drug Enforcement Unit, as well as off duty work for officers, along with "Frenchy" Bensard. Naturally Kennedy would be the one to meet and become friends with Elvis. While here, he also bought a car for Channel 4's Don Kenny. Rumor we heard throughout the dept was that when Kennedy heard Elvis was going on a car spending spree, he called his friend, Dr. Starkey. Supposedly when Elvis asked what kind of car he drove, Dr Starkey said "a mustang'. to which Elvis said, "you need a better car than that", so bought him a new one as well. Later we heard the car he was driving was actually his daughters car. Opportunists, all of them!!!!!!!! Last I heard, some of the cars were either sold or given away. Not sure if Kennedy still has his. Mr Kenny has said he donated his to a museum, refusing to profit from it. Also, while in the dealership, Elvis saw an older Black woman eyeing one of the display cars. He reportedly asked her if she liked it and was told,,: "oh yes, but i could never afford one", to which Elvis went to the dealer, got the keys to that particular car and handed them to her. Also, while here, Elvis gave then Denver Police Chief, Art Dill a very nice hand gun. We, on the dept questioned the ethics of them all receiving such extravagent gifts, but apparerently the City Attorney determined it was OK. One more tidbit about Elvis. When Capt Kennedy's brother commited suicide, Elvis flew in to attend the services and was disguised as a Police Capt, uniform and all.
If anyone has any knowledge of the where abouts of Kennedy, please post. Seems he just disappeared. He was such drug expert, and with his reputation nationwide, we all knew he could go anyplace he wanted, career wise.
You mentioned Ron Lyle in his caddy. Whenever one of us police officers would stop him , he would only roll his window down a fraction and talk to us through it............not sure if it wasn't meant to merely agravate us...............lol

DRB85650...
Regarding Pena, rumor i heard was one of the reasons Pena Blvd is such a winding road to the new airport is that his administration made a deal with all the land owners in the area, making sure a part of the road crossed over even a small portion of their land so they all would be in a win-win situation financially
I never heard of Danny Salazar......Was the "Crusade for Justice", at 16 th and Downing st and ran by radical activist "Corky" Gonzales, before or after La Raza, or where thay ran in conjunction with one another

Is the Cherry Creek neighborhood in Denver still the best for holiday lights? We looked forward to driving through those streets every year.
I am having a hard time remembering; was there a big lighted cross on Lookout Mtn?
Got lost one time driving through the Cabrini Shrine at night. Beautifully lit with a light December snow. I still don't think I could get back on the right road if I tried that now!

Anyone hear that the Rainbow Music Hall was torn down?.........It was located on Evans and Monaco and was the site of MANY concerts, some now big names playing there in the beginning of their careers. It had been turned into a Walgreens but now i hear the building itself was torn down. Too bad, as it was a music icon. But i guess its called progress!!!!
Also, too bad Barry Fey sold his "Feyline Productions"....Since then, music has never been the same in this town

You're right Ron. It was in the Post some time ago. I saw a lot of great concerts there, and reasonably priced-yep! I think the most I paid was $12 for a show. Whenever I would go to a show I'd have mexican food at the Holly Inn, just down the street from there.

Ah yes.
I still have a lot of Rainbow ticket stubs, and memories from the Holly Inn.
But we needed another Walgreens, right?

Ebbets Field, located downtown....73-75. Dr. Hook, Lynrd Skynrd? or Marshall Tucker Band? couldn't get in, sold out.
Earl Scruggs Review.
Leon Russel at the colesium
The Guess Who
Judy Collins, John Denver at Red Rocks.
Joe Walsh sitting in on open stage night at the Whole Earth coffee shop.
Seeing Stephen Stills slide around a corner in a red Maserati.
Sitting in a '57 Chevy listening to "Hey Jude" all the way thru for the first time.
"Stairway to Heaven" blasting, cruising down Hampden at 1am, waiting for the stupid 8 track to change channels and finish the song....somethings best left in the past.

Speaking of 8 track tapes, here is an ultimate blast from the past-Cartridge City on south Broadway. Sold 8 track players and speakers in the back of the business and the 4 tracks and the 8 tracks were in the front of the store. 4 tracks were $3.98, and 8 tracks were $5.98. An 8 track player car installation job was $20, I believe.
Then there was Shelley's World Of Sound on south Broadway in the Brookridge Shopping Center, just south of Belleview. He was the ultimate hustler salesman, always trying to sell the bootleg 8 track tapes because the price was $2 cheaper than the label releases, as he had hundreds of them in the store. Also sold lp's, 8 track players, etc. I heard one time the RIAA paid him a visit regarding the bootleg tapes but apparently got that issue resolved. This was early 1973. Then all of a sudden he was gone. Weird place, but bought a lot of music there as it was close to the house.
