Another idea for a local phone number is one of those diposable cell phones - the pay as you go kind.

I choose a bit of a middle ground this time.

I use vonage, and so I can have a phone number anywhere. So I got a Denver phone number 303-xxx-xxxx. So on the top of my resume It has only my name, my phone number and my email address.
I agree there. It's best not to have to deal with the issue of putting a false address down and the message that may send to a prospective employer. At least having the CO phone number and leaving off the address may get prospective employers to actually read the body of your resume.

I'm not sure about doing that. If they call, you can explain to them that you are out of state but are not expecting relocation expenses from them.

I know my DH wouldn't put a Denver address on a resume unless we lived there, but he would not be adverse to getting a local phone number. I think he mentioned Skype, too. We wouldn't expect relocation assistance from a company, and he'd say that upfront.
Hopefully we can time the selling of our house here in San Diego (ha ha ha! I crack myself up!), and him finding a job in another state. This would minimize our time apart and me having to sell the house on my own. Really would rather not have to sell, rent here until he gets a job in other state, and then move by myself. ARG! I guess good things are never easy, right?
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions!

BrianAggie95 is on a distinguished road
Yes, I debated back and forth about the relocation section I added... However in my case I kind of am required.. See I am overseas, 11 hour time difference from Denver... I am on assignment with my current company, and my current company is required to pay all of my relocation expenses back to the states.. I do however have to give 30 days notice, and I cannot make the 20 hour flight back to the states for preliminary interviews... So I am limited in my options.... And I feel I must be upfront about all this....

Luckily my wife is finalizing her job in Denver, as she is going back to a previous employer who has locations in the area. Once we get that finalized and take care of a few other housekeeping items... IE sell my car over here.. we are pretty much able to move when we want.

kimmer,

Where in the San Diego area are you? We lived in Spring Valley and Santee (mostly in Santee) for a total of 16 years. The Navy brought us out there, but we stayed several years after I got out. We moved back here in the summer of 2004.

Your situation sounds a lot like that of a friend of mine. He recently sold his home in Temecula, but it took him 9 months and several price drops to do so. (I remember when houses sold in days, not months.) He's now renting an apartment in Rancho Bernardo (where he works) until he can find a job here. He may be moving his wife and kids here shortly, so the kids can finish off the rest of the school year before we are too far into the 2nd half.

Wow, BrianAgie95, you're definitely in a tough situation. Not exactly easy for you to get another job out of area! 30 days notice is a lot. I understand the need to be completely upfront, for sure. That did give my an idea, though. Maybe hubby could find a job here that also has offices in Denver. It's a long-shot, but worth a look.

gpraceman, we're in San Marcos. It's such a booming area. We have a starter house, so it'll be on the lower price end, at least. Maybe that'll be an incentive. There are a few houses for sale in our development, so I'll be keeping a close eye out on how long it takes for those to sell. When we first started house hunting 10 years ago, we were looking at condo's in Carmel Mtn. Ranch or Poway, but for the same money, we bought a small, new house w/attached garage and yard here in San Marcos. Now, being from Pt. Loma and La Jolla originally, I was sceptical of San Marcos. Wasn't even quite sure where it was. Us beach folk were a pretty sheltered bunch as kids.

San Marcos is almost built out, but many of the houses here have been built in the last 10-15 years.
Santee has changed some, too, in the last few years. I think there's more traffic with the 52 going through now, and there's easier access to El Cajon now. My brother's in-laws have lived there for years, so we see the area occasionally.
Wow, 9 months to sell in Temecula? I know it's taking longer than it did a year or so ago, but that's long.
The 15 is being worked on again (as your friend in RB probably can tell you). They're doing some hideous overpass (carpool lanes) going right through RB, Escondido, and down past Poway. Badly needed, but ugly. Still can't fathom why no Trolley or Coaster through there! Then again, SD county isn't known for it's foresight.

Anyway, thanks again for all the info. Everyone's info and experience has really helped a lot.

We visited the end of July for our annual week of camping at South Carlsbad (can't make it this year though). Pulled into Santee to visit friends the day prior and it was 114 degrees and the power was out. I don't miss that at all! Fortunately, the beach was much cooler. I definitely don't miss the commute on Hwy 52 (or at times on I-15) to RB and back.

Hopefully, you won't have much of a problem selling in San Marcos.

I think we timed things right on getting out of there. We sold our 1959 3br 1ba 1300sqft no garage house and were able to get a house only 5 yrs old with 3 times the square footage (and 4 car garage ). Since then, looking at listings, it doesn't seem like home prices have gone up much since then. Nothing like the double digit rise per year of years past.

Yeah, I saw that mess when we visited.

Denver took forever before it finally put in a light rail system. It was extended down along I-25 and onto I-225 with the recently completed multi billion dollar T-REX project. Still, public transportation is lacking to many areas. Though, most of us (like myself) don't want to give up our cars. The light rail can be handy if you want to go to downtown Denver for dinner or other activities.
