Default Newlyweds Starting a Life in Denver

Hey all - I've been digging around in this forum this afternoon for some idea of where to live. My wife and I are moving to Denver in July - she's taken a position with the hostpital and I myself will be frantically looking for a job over the next month.

Basically we're in our late twenties looking for somewhere fun to live for a year before buying a house and "settling down." we dont have kids or pets and we're looking for a place that has some nice bars and restaurants to walk to, shopping, groceries, etc. We're looking for a 2 bedroom around 1200/mo, something like that. From what I've gathered, wash park sounds good as does Uptown. LoDo sounds maybe a little too active (please correct me if I'm wrong as I've never been to Denver before). I like the idea of somewhere cool and happening but I don't want to live in a loft above a club or anything like that. We're more of the walk to dinner around 8:30 and then go out and have a few drinks somewhere laid-back and then come home and watch a movie.

We also have to take into account that there are several different hospitals she'll have to rotate around at, so maybe somewhere that isn't potentially bottled in with traffic / easy to escape in the mornings. Friends have recommended both wash park and cheesman park. I want to make sure though we're not buried in the middle of a neighborhood without any restaurants or things to do nearby.

So can anyone recommend an ideal place?

many thanks,
FredMcG
