Default NW neighborhoods

We are moving to Denver. We homeschool (so good schools are not an issue) and my husband works from home (so commuting is not an issue). We would like to live close to downtown and live in a moderately-priced neighborhood with some ethnic diversity and flavor. We would also like a "walkable" and "bikeable" neighborhood. We have narrowed our search to NW denver. Does this seem to "fit the bill?" Is there a particular neighborhood in that area that anyone would recommend? Thanks in advance.
Karen

Highlands and Berkeley in the NW. East Denver has some really nice biking areas with the large parks and the parkways. I would consider Park Hill, Mayfair, Montclair and Congress Park in addition.

NW Denver is an excellent choice if you're looking for something close to downtown, walkable, and bikable, although as Augie Daugie notes, you could meet those same criteria in a number of Denver neighborhoods. Still, Northwest Denver is an extremely popular area right now and I think its popularity is justified.

If you do move to Northwest Denver, I'd highly recommend you look up the Highland Mommies. It is currently the biggest and most active Mom's network in the city, and possibly the metro area as well. It has really blossomed in the last few years. Despite the name "Highland" -- it actually includes families in all of NW Denver from I-70 down to Colfax.

What's your price range? NW Denver has become extremely popular of late, and is becoming less and less affordable. West Highland is already fairly expensive, and East Highland is quickly catching up. Berkeley and Sloan's Lake are probably a bit more affordable at the present time, and Sunnyside is still quite affordable but also more in progress (Sunnyside is a lot like Highlands was 10 years ago). Still, I don't think you can go wrong with anywhere in NW Denver.
