I think Littleton is a good choice, as well. Try and have good access to Santa Fe, so you could ride light rail to work. I think you would like Ken-Caryl but that most likely would put your commute over 30 minutes. If your husband starts earlier than the normal time it would minimize that. I've got pics of Ken-Caryl in one of my albums, in case you've never been in this community. There is a park and ride at Ken Caryl and C-470 which should get you downtown in about 45 minutes. Living in south Denver is also a good option. To generalize, you'll pay more per square foot for a house in Denver as compared to the suburbs, however, you will have lower taxes.

What about Cherry Creek? Is that a nice neighborhood to live in with many surrounding shops, restaurants and activities to just get out and walk around? Thanks. I know they have the big mall there.

Another great aspect of Littleton is the proximity to the light rail - if your husband is working downtown he may be able to ride it to work if you live in Littleton or another SW area.
Although the mailing address is Littleton, I live in unincorporated Jefferson County. There are a lot of great and affordable neighborhoods out here with homes that are 30-15 years old and tons of selection and variety in your price range. Helpful with taxes too. So consider the neighborhoods west of Pierce St and South of Belleview - still a 10 minute drive to the lightrail station.

Hi!
Check out the Green Mountain section of west Lakewood. Great parks, in addition to GM mtn biking and hiking, Bear Creek Lake Park there's Dinosaur Ridge (great for the kids!). Good schools and plenty of restaurants on Union Blvd. Close to mtns for escape!

How is that appealing when you can live closer to work in an area the is not losing value?

Wow, I'm not going to be the one to give you the bad news there.

Average schools, 30 minutes to downtown (with luck) declining house properties that make NBC's ratings look good and further away from the ski areas than downtown Denver. Winner.

I agree that the Green Mountain is a good area to consider because of one big plus--the West Corridor Light Rail. This is the first corridor of the Fastracks project that is now under construction and will be completed in early 2013. That is important because it will have a station at which is now one of the largest Park n' Rides in the system, Cold Springs, which is on Union just north of Alameda. That is right in the vicinity of Green Mountain.

When this station opens, there will be expansion of buses, feeder buses to the station and a call n' ride. In addition, right next to the station, the new St. Anthony's Hospital is now under construction. That with Belmar just down the road on Alameda/Wadsworth, current stores in the area of Green Mountain and the amenities on Union, we will see a good dense corridor with good transportation. Let us not forget the assured property value increases that will go with the completion of the Rail Corridor.

If you're focusing in on Littleton, then you may want to consider South Park, which is on the southeast corner of Santa Fe and Mineral. One of the strong points is that's it very close to the light rail line, so your husband could have a great commute to downtown. You said you liked an older home, but what do you mean by older? The homes in South Park were built by Writer (since bought out by a larger national builder) in the 80's and 90's and tend to be contemporary. Many of these homes are ready for some up-dating. The neighborhood is also interlaced with parks and trials, which Writer was known for. As you go north from there towards the City of Littleton you'll find older homes (50's, 60's, and 70's) with larger trees and established neighborhoods. Many of these are ready for an up-date. You'll get more for your money in the suburbs, however, the taxes are a little higher than Denver's, but I think the trade off is worth it. I live in Ken-Caryl Ranch (pics in one of my albums), but that might be a little further than your husband wants to commute. That's in the un-incorported part of Littleton, known as south Jefferson County. Your price range won't get you much in the Valley part, however, you can get more for your money on the Plains side as it's older, hence better chance for some sweat equity oportunities.

I don't see Westminster, Wheat Ridge on the map. Where would it be located? Are these sep cities?

Thanks for the help.
