Default Best place to get a Denver omelette?

Hello citizens of Denver. In a few weeks I'll be driving cross country from the northeast to take up residence in this fine city. As soon as I hit the city limits, I would like to indulge in Denver's signature contribution to breakfast cuisine, the "Denver Omelette," or as you locals probably more commonly refer to it, the "Omelette."

Where, may I ask, is the source establishment of such an omelette, or, more importantly, where is the best place to get one?

Regards,
Fred McG

Dozen's at 13th and Bannock in Denver, or the Dozen's that is one block north of Iliff and Havanna in Aurora.

There really is no restaurant in Denver that claims to have prepared the first Denver omelette. For some background, see:

Denver - Arts & Entertainment - The Yolk's on Us

So, the Denver omelette isn't really original to Denver. Nor, I think, does it engender the passion that, say, Philly cheesesteaks or runzas do in their respective parts of the country. (In Denver, I think that place is reserved for either breakfast burritos or green chile; everyone seems to have an opinion on them.)

Denver omelettes are also done no better here than in most other parts of the country. But if you want to try one just because you're in Denver, I'd suggest The Eggshell in Cherry Creek or room service at The Brown Palace hotel. It's been over twenty years since I've had one at the Brown, but it was not quite what you'd expect: more like a frittata than what we usually think of as an omelette. Definitely different, but tasty nonetheless.

Be aware that you're as like to see "Western omelette" as "Denver omelette" on a breakfast menu. They're the same thing.

Others will probably have better suggestions, though.

The heck with a Denver omelette. Go find yourself a good plate of heuvos rancheros smothered in green chile for breakfast, some Rocky Mountain oysters with cocktail sauce for lunch, and a big thick steak at the Buckhorn Exchange (Colorado Liquor License #1) washed down with whiskey for dinner.

Breakfast burritos and green chile you say? I am definitely moving to the right place.

(however I do intend on having a ceremonial Denver omelette when I arrive, so thanks much for the suggestions... dozens and eggshells)

p.s. nice article CapHillboy

When I visited Denver I never saw a Denver omelette. They call them Western Omelettes there for some reason. They were probably invented in Ohio or NY
