car mechanic to my home
Hi all...
I need some friendly advice. My car will not start in front of my house. Mazda MX3... Long story short, I would like to have someone come out and look at it and give me an estimate or at least a ballpark...shhh...i am clueless about cars.... Do you know of anyone who does this in the Denver area?
I wish I new
1. how to fix my own car
2. how to practice law or at least sound like it and
3. how to diagnose my own health issues without having to go to the doctor...i guess the health insurance issue is a whole other thread.....

HI Bethhi,
You may be looking for quite awhile. I have never heard of mechanics making house calls. If it will not start at all you have two options. Have a neighbor or friend try to jump start your car (assuming your car battery is the problem). Or, you will have to call around to find the least expensive towing company you can find and have it towed to your favorite repair shop. If you don't know of a repair shop, take it to the the closest Mazda dealership you can find. The Mazda dealership may have someone they can suggest to have your car towed in.
Best wishes,
Bill

Do you have triple A? If not, check your auto insurance policy- many of them have some towing coverage.

I'd do it for a small fee, if I lived in denver. Call around to your favorite shop, and ask to speak to one of the technicians. Mention that there will be cash involoved, and you can usually get someone to at least come take a look.

great advice!!
thanks! yes, this would involve cash...i checked geico and i can add towing to my package which would be an additional cost much higher than just getting it towed....i believe it is my master cylinder..it starts but will not go into gear if turned on........and i will call around to techs to see if they would be willing to come by....if not i will contact mazda dealership...great suggestions!! thanks!
if anyone has honest "people" they use please let me know...warning: single female who looks clueless most of the time...but putting on my glasses seems to help disguise my IQ

If you think its the clutch master cylinder......Do you still feel pressure on the clutch pedal when you push it down? Or does it just feel like the pedal isn't attatched to anything?

Maybe we can help you out from here to help troubleshoot the problem like Ryan is trying to do...
Won't start in front of your house? If you push it next door, will it start then? Ok, that's the start and the end of that kind of questioning... I have a 22 year old daughter who is like you, sorry, couldn't resist.
Ok, Master Cylinder. That is the main part of the brake system, has nothing to do with the starting of the car.
So, you say it starts, but won't go into gear. Does your car have an automatic transmission or manual transmission? (Do you have to put it in drive to go, then put it in park when you stop somewhere or do you have to change gears everytime yourself?)
If it is an automatic transmission, when you put it in drive, it doesn't go into gear? Or if it is a manual transmission, answer Ryan's questions and we'll move on from there...

I assume she was on the right track when she pinpointed the clutch master cylinder. If that were defective, the car would run, but you would not be able to disengage the clutch to put the transmission in gear.
Although at first she claimed the car would not start, so I don't know...
PS, i'm an ASE L1 Master Technician. ANything anybody wants to know, feel free to ask.
