Hi,
I am looking at relocating to the Denver area from Sydney. I have been to Denver many times. I will be working in the Englewood area. I have another thread running on a similar topic Moving to CO from Australia I am currently in a an inner suburb of Sydney with a high hip factor, lots of artist, nice restaurants and bars. I was thinking about looking in a similar setting in Denver. What is it like in inner Denver? I would like a suburb that is a little more hip (easy access to bars, restaurants, diverse community etc)what is the crime rate like? Are these areas over run by collage students? Thanks for your help. |

I'm eagerly awaiting a response from someone in the know as I'm thinking of moving from Austin and want the 'down low' on inner city crime and affordability as seen throught the gauze of hipsterdom as well.
Well, maybe not so much hipsterdom as hippiedom. or something. This may help, or at least keep you busy, in the meantime: Denver 101? - Hip Forums |

I think you can google crime stats. There are a ton of threads on this forum about these areas. Plus, I'm sure some of the regualrs will chime in soon.

Many of the inner neighborhoods of denver have really been up and coming areas with tons of redevelopment. Many of them have lots of cafes and coffee shops mixed in with older housing stock and modern condo buildings. From the title of your thread you are mainly looking at the south denver area? If so I would recomend the areas of Wash park, Cheesman park, platt park, bonnie brae etc. it just depends on how much you can afford since some of these areas can get rather expensive.

Denver really isn't a "college" town, so you won't find the neighborhoods overrun by college students like you would sections of Boulder. What you are looking for would be the neighborhoods Steveco mentions and I would add Highlands, though it is north of downtown, it is hip. Currently the art galleries are consuming Santa Fe Drive west of downtown, but it is not yet a residential friendly area. Typical of artists to take over a run down area of town to display their wares with the area eventually becoming the place to be and be seen. Capitol Hill is more of what you are looking for then Lodo. Lodo is overrun with the "just out of college/sports" crowd and the alpha males tend to run amuck on the streets when the bars close at 2:00 am. Capitol Hill is much more diverse. Also check out south City Park and Uptown areas. Best wishes!
