Isn't DazBog locally owned? Also, to the person above, Southglenn Plaza is closed? or am I thinking of Southwest Plaza? That's still around isn't it? I never get over that way anymore.

Dazbog is a locally-owned chain and I do love their drip coffee.
I guess I was trying to say that I'd love to see the developer combine the planned big-box stores with something local or otherwise distinctive (one-of-a-kind?) to sort of set Buckingham apart from the others and make it 'not like the rest.'
Like I said, I'm happy to see that the land is going to be used for something. I'm not trying to be a complainer -- just pointing out that there are already a lot of the target/dick's/home depot combination 'centers' in the region.

So does this mean Villa Italia is gone too? Haven't been to Denver since about '87 or so....And Lakeside Amusement Park? used to have some great 4th fireworks shows there, over the lake.
Sloans Lake?
Kennedy High School?
Bear Valley ?
geez, it was only yesterday....

HAHAHA, that's funny drb. Villa Italia went downhill quick. It's now Belmar, what someone else was talking about in this thread. It's a Californian-type design, outdoor mall. Funny though, because whomever designed this obviously wasn't thinking of our winters. And those stupid outdoor fireplaces hardly cut it. But it's nice in the summer!
Lakeside, still there. Don't know about the rest.
If you haven't been here since '87, you've really got to come back. We have light rail, tons of new malls, it's just exploded.

It seems like all of the old malls have gone away or are going away in the last few years. Cinderella City, CrossRoads (Boulder), Villa Italia, Southglenn, Buckingham, Lakeside, all gone. I wonder who will be next? Perhaps Westminster Mall?

Don't forget northglenn. Westminster is probably my best guess for redevelopment and who knows how long Southwest can hold out. Indoor malls really are going the way of the dinosaur. Even park meadows just tore down a former department store and created an outdoor section to it.

I totally vote for Westminster Mall going down. It resembles the old Aurora Mall before they revamped it. Also, over by my area (88th/Washington) they are building a huge plex. Outdoor of course. But full of fountains and parks and shops. I'm dying for them to finish. It's slated for summer '08. They took the Rancho Liborio (mexican supermarket) and are rebuilding it (it's even bigger!) and that's the mall anchor.

They just made an outlet mall here an Orlando that I'd like to see in Denver. They make it in the design of an indoor mall but the ground is brick pavers lined with palm trees and there is no roof. (I guess we would have to deal without the palm trees in Denver but at least the design would protect us better from the cold wind than the Belmar design.) It's huge as well; I don't know the biggest mall in Denver, but it's at least double the size of Park Meadows mall.
