THANKS!
I wonder if the developer involved may have been hit by the worsening economy and the financial/credit crunch. It's a tough time right now for retail of any sort, even tougher to get the financing together to do a project.

Lakeside, which is actually a "town" believe it or not, has a grand total of 20 people, including kids! The total number of adults there is likely to be almost smaller than the city council members of every other city in Metro Denver. For years, the old mall was a sales tax generating machine for those 20; so it's no wonder that the town is not exactly known for keeping the public informed about what they are up to.

They started the construction on Lakeside Mall property but stopped all activities many months ago. My take is that as tfox said, it is a victim to the current economic problems.

My take on the town of Lakeside--I think it will disappear in the near future because the maintenance and safety upgrades to the aging park will be too much to handle without the sales tax from Lakeside Mall. The Amusement Park will close and join the adjacent closed raceway as available property for redevelopment.

I am willing to bet that Wheat Ridge will make a play to acquire this land and help fund the redevelopment. It would make a great deal of sense because it would give Wheat Ridge a retail generating area along the fast gentrify area of North Denver. In Addition, It would make sense to include the little municipality of Mountain View in the land grab. Mountain View encompasses a few blocks across the street from Lakeside and is in a good spot for gentrification; especially if the whole property of Lakeside is developed into a new urban residential/retail enclave.

Lakeside really has much potential because it is across the street from Berkeley Lake Park with Inspiration Point and Case Golf Course nearby. It will be down the street from a new commuter rail station at 60th and Sheridan and up the street from another rail station at 13th and Sheridan. You could not ask for a better place for a redevelopment.

Thanks for all your POV's, I really hope Wheat Ridge will move to acquire that land. That's really exciting about the rail stations as well. It's exciting to watch North Denver Metro grow in the past few years I've lived there.

I have put in calls to Chandelle Development which, not to my surprise, said that no information has made public as of yet. As well as the Public information official for Wheat Ridge. Hopefully a sparked interest from the public could get the ball rolling a bit more quickly.

I live in Mountain View, and have been doing much late night research on the situation with Lakeside.

I'm not certain that the town of Lakeside maintains the amusement park, or that it's been well maintained for quite some time. But I don't understand how either of the adjoining towns of Mountain View or Lakeside can survive on parking tickets alone. SInce there's no real retail sales tax base, some confederation of the towns with Wheatridge is almost inevitable. Annexing Mtn View and Lakeside to Denver would be ideal, but not practical from a legal standpoint.

Mountain View is struggling and on its way out as a municipality. There's a town meeting this week--tomorrow/Monday night at 7 to be precise- about the town's budgetary crisis, and I plan to attend to push them towards petitioning for annexation into Wheat Ridge.

Assuming WR annexes Mountain View, they will have more of a boundary with the Town of Lakeside and be able to move in easier.

I bought and remodeled my house here two years ago, and have seen several nice remodels in the neighborhood. Still, gentrification from Berkeley is moving slowly due to the economy, so me and my neighbors have been closely watching the Lakeside Mall redevelopment.

Once the Lakeside project advances, gentrification will spread to Mountain View, due its proximity to Tennyson and lower-priced housing. I'm getting a bit impatient though. . .

They're not keeping us informed because Lakeside is ruled by one woman, Rhoda Krasner.

Those twenty residents work for her Lakeside Amusement Park...

Cherry Creek mall too - they tore it down last year. Now it's an outdoor shopping center anchored by ESPN Zone and Dave-n-Busters.

Are you talking about the Cherry Creek in California, because I just drove by the Denver one today and all was in tact sans an ESPN Zone and Dave-N-Busters? Did you just get home from your night job?
