There is earth moving going on today (May 12, 2009) at Lakeside...Chandelle Development is being hush-hush about plans for Lakeside because they are in negotiations with a Casino developer in Macau (as in China) to turn the lakeside property into a casino complex. First, though, they have to have a state-wide referendum authorizing the Town of Lakeside to have gambling, just like Blackhawk and Cripple Creek. So the re-development is still a few years out.

Now that is interesting news. I do not think that there will be any chance for another gaming area--but it is possible. You can bet that the mountain gaming people will fight it.

I certainly would not want gaming happening in my neighborhood--this is right down the road from me.

If they have starting again to move earth, it could only be for something that can definitely be built in the next year or two. I can see condos and some retail. The area has good potential along Lake Rhoda.

Gaming is NOT going to happen in Lakeside. The voters will may have approved the measure for BlackHawk/Central City, because the communities there were pushing hard for it and they're, well, far enough away from the voters and not exactly on the way to anywhere else. Plus, the money was supposedly going to a good cause. But Lakeside? No way. There's just no constituency that will support it about about, oh.. a thousand who will rally to shoot it down.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm personally all about getting rid of the nanny state. But give Lakeside a nice little monopoly on gaming so the family that runs the town can roll in cash in at everyone else's expense? Not going to happen.

Somebody mentioned that Chandelle might be co-operating with a Chinese Casino developer? Which is ridiculous. I doubt that will ever come to pass if it is true. I will rally against it if it ever is on the books.
